No moisture since the snow went into already dry powder until just before you drove through that area and weeks on end of wind and much above temps will do that. Snow didn't leave until late April and by may 15 the lighter soils had dried down to below canola seeding depth, many trusted the forecasted rain each week that never materialized and seeded for quicker emergence , talked to a few guys that said after last year's debacle they were still nervous about their canola seed, turned out it came up well if seeded deeper this year because the ground got so warm. Last year it froze, on the same date it was 32 this year. Hard to get it perfect when there's such wild swings from year to year. Some years its a make a decision amd hope that you guessed right.

Canola at home turned orange two days ago on 1/2 or it
Will see what this 1/2 rain does
                Great full but late .
Got some small hail as well
Quick drive , so far nothing like last week as far as hail damage

Last night Abernethy and north got about 3/4'' of rain... the storm seemed to follow #22 highway so Lemberg and Neudorf and north probably got some too.. It is a start, more needed especially to the south of #22 highway..

Received 2 in rain last 4 days. Wheat has perked up but too late to give more than a break even yield. Soy was looking good before rain but has now yellowed. I think rain is telling ito grow but dry conditions earlier prevented nodulation. I don't know if it will recover.

Watching a crop wither and dry out is hard to take , much like watching a decent crop get decimated by hail . We have experienced both already and it’s only July 2 .
Not as dry as some , but still have some severe drought reduced areas. Lost most of our good canola to hail .
Hopefully get something now after rain on all the stuff in between

We are three weeks tomorrow since last rain which was 9/10. Could be the shortest crop we have ever grown with no rain in forecast for next two weeks. Relentless heat and now wind , it’s real hard to get even the least bit excited about harvest. Wasn’t a believer in the whole climate change thing before but am now starting to think maybe there is something to it . We just never get normal weather anymore, it’s either one extreme or the other .

You must be younger than I am, every kind of weather has happened in my 70 years. What is NORMAL?

Changeability is, rarely two years alike. It's called chaos...

Ag bible says it rains on GOOD or BAD....it is correct.

Hail storm last night and 1/4 to 3/4 of rain.

Hail came within a half mile of my land.

Since I started farming in 1979 we have had everything from dry years to mud bogs to frost in the early days of august to blistering heat with hot hot southern wind that turned the whole crop white in two days.

It’s farming in one of the toughest places to grow a crop.

High costs then throw in every curveball possible is going to make for some tough decisions.
