Heres the 100kph report, edmonton to regina.

Not too shabby closer to edmonton, again any cereals are holding on fairly well. Looks like guys were just in with fungicides. Canola is a mixed bag, quite a few patchy shortish crops in bloom, but it also looks like a lot of later stuff is coming in the open spots. Not sure if that was flooded or just no moisture to start.

Conditions hold about the same until an hour from Lloyd and then its better most of the way to NB. From NB to Saskatoon to the Qu'Appelle Valley deteriorates quite a bit then pretty nice once you get closer to Regina.

Everywhere needs a drink.

Sure is a lot of canola seeded. May not be a bin buster but the acres might tip the balance.

Ironically some pretty poor crops right around the AIM site.

And I should mention, this was not a crop tour, just coming back from waterpark in WEM for the kids.

I'm west of you a bit, and we have had less rain than 21 so far. Only difference is we haven't had the heat and wind this year. Small area though, go west and east and south a bit and they've had double the rain. Though north up by St Bruiex it's worse. Barley seems to he hit the worst so far.

One farmer in SW Sask told me his crop is burning up faster than the Turd spends money.

First rain after seeding was June 16.
There are decent crops, crap crops, and no crop in patches. Even good crops you can see rows yet if you look.
Moisture probe normally to the handle at seeding, no more than 2' here. Haven't bothered checking since. I have some that could use some of Tom's hail.
This month shaping up to fry half the seeds in the head. We'll see how long the canola hangs on.
You had to get it in first part of May and hit the right clouds this year, both before and after seeding.
North of me I have decent for year. Short. South of me I got garbage. Sadly it can't hail if it can't rain lol.
Budgeting easy. Take last years sales and divide by two.

What a mixed nightmare…

Cutting hay at SHERWOOD Park now… if that doesn’t encourage it to rain… the unheaded tillers will die … most wheat knee high with main crop having short heads. Rain would really help Canola now… patchy but 80 % ok if it blooms and stays cooler…

One good field of peas at SHERWOOD Park…. Maybe 25% of average at Killam… if it rains to help it start blooming and fill. Won’t be fun at harvest… sure glad we rolled everything! CPS at Killam might average 30% of normal… if it rains… if not… it is toast. Same with peas and Canola.

Might just get my first 100% results on examinations this year! What a dubious thought… it sure did look great June 30th! Now to fix windows, Siding, roofs, windshields, bodywork… but animals and families who are uninjured other than our pride and patience!

Preselling… cash grain … didn’t do much except for our risk free Nexera… and some wheat options… amazing volatility!

Was writing a post about my road trip from Lloyd to Calgary via 619 through Camrose. Pretty much same observations and inferences I made which you said. Crop to crop through your area I assume east of Camrose varies quite a bit. All depends on depth, day, and general dumb ass luck or lack thereof. After seeing the hwy 2 corridor which generally looks good but this year looks tough, I don’t hold much hope for a big crop across the prairies. Granted there’s pockets of great crops. My little area looks alright enough but you don’t stray far and it looks tough.

What does this all mean regarding yields? Is 40% of the country looking at sub 50% of average? Is 60% looking at 20% less of average? My hay crop is 50% less of last year. I’m thinking this extra heat and possible dry next 3 weeks will drop canola yields 20% of average on my farm or maybe more.

5.4 inches of rain this year with 3.5 inches coming late in seeding. Plenty of moisture reserve to start seeding. I can't imagine areas without any reserve to start.

Crops are starting to stress, Barley and Canary are the worst. Canola is just starting to struggle.
