Was an excellent canola field 10 days ago


Just a few draws and low spots worthwhile left
My home 1/4
And we had 1/2 rain Saturday night plus showers and cool Monday
Simply the tank was empty over a week ago
Zero soil moisture left

That’s just sad to see.

Saskcrop report is positive as usual and I have to ask again who are the crop reporters they need to be sent packing because as volunteers they suck.

I would imagine the crop report was from 14-20 days ago ?

Just a rough guess but I would think
1/3 of Sask is toast
1/3 hanging on by a thread and drought damage showing, without significant rain yields will tank
1/3 in good shape for now

I would imagine Alberta be much the same
Manitoba not in great shape overall either by comments on here .

Drought taking its toll and expanding in most western Canada unfortunately

Does anyone else care to offer their opinion on this? Is it really that bad across the prairies?

Definitely improved a lot locally since the rain, and then after the excess rain quit adding insult to injury. Doesn't sound like it extended very far though, most were too far gone by the time it rained.

seeing a lot of crop around here that looked excellent go to shit .

Crop insurance will tell you if it rains it will be ok. They are not qualified to make that assessment.

Bought a couple flex headers in Leader this winter. Went to pick them up yesterday We farm between Stockholm and Whitewood on the north side of the valley. We REALLY need a rain. Went though Melville Ituna, etc down thw alpabet highway till Outlook. Nice crops for a few miles around Raymore, every thing else Meh. Went south west to Eston etc to Leader . Everything from Eatonia south to Leader a disaster!! Cows on a section of pasture eating dirt! Nothing there. Hut we bought headers from said year 5 of drought.
Back to swift, saw canola (mustard)? done blooming ,some couple miles down the road, barely see rows. Crops nice between Moosejaw and Regina, but start to peter out around Indian Head .Pick up again around Grenfell. Really think we're headed for a wreck. SK you,re definitely in the sweet spot!!

I think there are a lot of politicians and so called farm leaders that need to take a road trip and pay attention. This isn't just something to laugh about anymore.

Mentioned this a couple reports ago that the small rains are actually working like a desiccant. Crop turns brown with a tenth of rain.

The next 5 days are going to shock some people in “good” areas
It’s happening extremely fast , 4-5 days from nice crop to burnt out
That’s what happens when you start the long journey with 1/8 th of a tank . When you hit E , you ****ed

And incidentally, the boys have been asking me to go on a road trip through saskatchewan. I think we will do that sooner than later and see for ourselves. Can anyone suggest any routes. We have no where specifically we need to go.

So is this a function of the moisture deficit maps which Larry has been posting in recent years. Where the cumulative deficit just keeps growing, and there is no reserve left?
One paper, I would think this year shouldn't have been this serious already if there had been any soil moisture in reserve.

There was zero soil moisture in many areas for 3-4 ft last fall, zero exaggeration. Spring melt had maybe 12-18 inches of decent moisture.
Many areas south and west had less
Again it’s like starting a long journey with 1/8 tank fuel ⛽️.
So add very limited rainfall and missing one or two timely rains , it’s over as fast as you can blink
Rains after that point make near zero difference
