Friday Crop Report on a Thursday!

Good morning this will be quick because I have a hail adjuster coming and we are still spraying fungicides. Almost done.

The weather changed two weeks ago and started to turn dry. Zero this past week and we cant buy a shower now. The crops huge potential is dropping.

Total rainfall for July is 3/10 to 3/4 of an inch total for the year on our three weather stations is 5, 6.7, & 8 inches since May 1.

I did take a drive Regina to BigRiver, PA, Melfort, Tisdale, wadena, Fort and back to Regina. It’s good till valley at Lumsden then goes South rather fast till Davidson, picks up at Saskatoon a bit, drops and issues till valley, nice till Melfort but showing signs of drought, starts dropping off to Tisdale then slowly better all way down to Fort, sweet spot Edgeley. If Sask Ag And Foods Crop Report doesn’t start calling the drought and does a rosy report like last weeks bullshit report I’ll go nuts. Drought has taken over and with the prime time water use on now lots are going backwards. Getting reports from friends on West side that have given up and going to the lake so they don’t have to look at the crop. Big Farmer on radio yesterday west of us and on his 52000 acres it’s dry and failing. Harsh was on Monday and it’s bad over that way. So Sask Ag give a real crop report instead of fluff. Ag In Motion is on next week so suspect it will be fluff. It did rain in dry parts, yea how well does your wife’s plants do when you forgot to water for two weeks and she is coming home on Sunday , will water bring them back or do you buy new ones and try to fool her.

Grain markets probably follow this report because it’s more accurate in all three provinces because of the contributors. Over 11000 views last week.

    Crop report July 13 th.

One problem in our area and all are noticing it three dry hot days and wind slowed crop report because we’re shallow roots with so much rain and plant growth stalled. This weeks cool temp are great as roots had time to go down. Dug a trench in yard to new shed on sand ridge for power, hit a rocky patch going to it so dug with hoe down three ft and jumped into the trench. Moist and wet all way down. So yes the plants need this cool week.

Hrs and Durum are still doing great. Most sprayed fungicide and now just a few fields are left to go. Flowering is done on early wheat and it’s starting to fill. Midge to west but most seed midge resistant. Hodge looks impressive from what I see. Starbucks on left, Hodge right.

Barley didn’t like the rain and excess water but has grown through most of the issues and is looking better. Most sprayed fungicides.

Oats and green feed are coming along nice.

Canola is awesome for most fields. Tall thick and healthy. Everyone sprayed fungicides in area. Either plane, chopper or ground rig. Podding is started on early, late everything from bolting to full flower.

Ok in summary a rain in the next week would help with this crop to take it to the next level but if the pattern stay for the next two weeks yields will drop off.

Sask wide has only a very few areas that look like a 10/10 a lot are 5 and less.

Have a great week and stay safe.

I am guessing that those crops are in a very relatively small area ?

Just from reports on either side of your local area?

Had a first yesterday in a long time. An equipment dealer drove into the yard.He said no one is coming into dealership so he thought he should hit the road. They have some combines that will see a third birthday on lot they are trying to move.Crop insurance adjuster told me they have a huge pile of claims come in this week for crop write offs for green feed. How sustainable is farming when you collect crop insurance seven years in a row like the guy in the WP.It will be three years for some in our area.Oh well off to craven and forget about it for a few days, cheers.

Hope Crop Insurance stocked up on pens. There will be a lot of cheques signed after this fall.
Then mighty Moe will come out next spring with the budget and blame the deficit on the farmers again because of a huge payout. Again, it’s our fault it didn’t rain.

I’ve talked to a lot of depressed farmers out there. Some have gone now three yrs with no crop.

For those that have something give thx to the guy upstairs you have because of him. I do have something so far and am thankful. I have a good friend who lives 35 miles from me who won’t have much. We had half inch the other day, one small area got 8 tenths and I’m overjoyed. Yes, it could always be more, but could have gotten nothing.

Off to lake today for an extra long wk end.

We caught a lucky 6 or 7 tenths across most of our land yesterday. It was a savior. Crop is too lush for the available soil moisture left. Should buy us another couple weeks, get the canola through bloom and durum headed. Will need another couple shots pronto.

Talked with a couple cowboys this week from the SW sask area. They lost all battles, with hoppers, drought and now just focusing on keeping the cows going for the year.

Crops are variable here east of Edmonton ranging from poor to average. 10 mile to the NW of home my wheat is my poorest and looks like Furrow's. Rain showed up just a bit too late for it and it should range from 20-25 bu/ac. Barley which is a mile away is significantly better. All my land is solonetzic to various degrees. Canola is patchy as the photo below from my yard below attests. Very good is some places and thin in others due to germination issues combined with some cutworm damage is some places. Compared to some others area we are very good so not complaining. Should make an average crop which is around 35bu/ac on the solonetz.

R.M. one north of us declared disaster zone today. We won’t be too far behind. Not real sure what the benefit is but I’m sure we will be finding out shortly

Pastures are done, between gopher, drought and grasshoppers they are totally dead. We haven't had a 2nd cut of hay in years, this year we will average less than a bale/acre in the hollows, no hay on the hills so no point. Wheat has big heads and flowering. Not sure how they can fill with nothing but powder below. All the Barley is very short and dying in the boot, looking like it'll be wrote off. Canola was holding on pretty decent but I'm noticing big white patches. Very little rain since fathers day. I will say the canola and wheat look better at this time of year than in 21, considering how shitty they were.

A little lower is the circle above for good crop I would include Indian head to Regina.

                              Kevins area is dryer.

Up at foam lake and you can see they need a drink real soon

Two bucks were hiding as I sprayed this morning.
