If I had a guarantee min of $12 durum, with 60 bu that’s all I would grow. Headers never need to touch the ground. Growing lentils may sound cheap to grow till the combines go in for inspection.

We didn't grow lentils in 21 (trying to lengthen rotation from 4-5 years) or 22 (fert carryover). Our combines and headers looked like they had hardly been used vs years when we seeded 20-25% lentils

Ignorance is bliss. $800 guarantee on canola. $475 on wheat. Pick which you’d grow on the west side….

It’s a big area and the next three days are going to cook it some more. One troubling thing is seeing signs of some drying from moose jaw to Regina. Windy down south today.

Canola is the one crop in big trouble.

Durum is number two but some will be produced.

Barley is taking it on the chin.

Lentils faired well for the most part and in some areas the only green thing around.

Peas seeded early died or are but did make some seed before dying.

Flax I seen one half just sticks no plant at all.

Get one rain it looks better, drive a mile on each side and if it missed it’s easy to see the difference.

Sloughs seeded or water runs have something
            .

Take a drive it’s worth doing. I’m tired it’s been a long three days but home and tomorrow off to Ontario.

Bucket it was fun to touch base after all these years.

Missed heading down to Stewart valley looking at tractors.

In a nutshell the heat will take grain away. The rain events if you get will make a crop of what’s there. Big yields maybe a bit higher but mathematically it’s a lower crop due to the size.

Word of advice for Sask ag get out and look.

            Showers were spotty this year.

Is that kochia growing right out of a sand dune.

I am wondering if there will be a change in tone in this industry after all is said and done. I mean some guys are in multiple yrs of drought. Even some reliable areas have had drought 2 out of 3 yrs now.

Here it was that late april snowstorm that saved us. Gave us a full bank of soil moisture just before seeding and some timely rains held us in, but go 30miles west and its a different story.

Our canola went from a 25bu two weeks ago to maybe a ten. Some very early seeded canola will be better for sure, ours was seeded mid may, big mistake this year.

Been raining nearly every day in the north Parkland from somewhere around Edmonton through the forest area between North Battleford and Meadow Lake and a bit east on that path
Will be some decent crops in the farmland areas

Sask Ag doesn’t give two rats asses what’s going on.

Only thing the government will do is blame the farmers it didn’t rain when they present their spring budget saying their was a hefty payout to the farmers from crop insurance.

They will add crop insurance coverage is the highest it’s ever been with top up to most crops. Well the premiums have been topped up quite nicely also.

If El Niño sticks around all fall and winter and into spring …. look out!!

If anyone is looking for a payout, go buy a lotto ticket, or call Monette.
