Friday Crop Report on a Thursday.

    Well, where did July go?

My next question is, where did all the rain go? We hit 5 to 9 inches between May 1 to July 1, then basically nothing in July.

Crops are losing yield in our area or just holding, not gaining. Province-wide, a few areas gained that got rain and a few had that were disasters, but overall, the last week, bushels were lost.

Okay, I saw this on Tic Toc, and I agree someone has to say it.

Sophie left Trudeau because she got tired of him screwing Canadians instead of her.

    Crop report.

Hrs and Durum are in the filling stage; the average is six rows and 14 spiklets. I don't think it will hit last year's yield overall. Odd head has died from disease, but min. You can find Grasshoppers, but not many. How well the last kernels will fill is up to Mother Nature, but we have moisture below, so if it cools, it could be okay. Extreme heat wasn't good except it spread up the maturation.

Peas and lentils are entering the final week before major spraying starts to shut them down, and a few have started that seeded early. Peas look okay and could reach last year's yields. They beat the heat. Lentils are OK with heat and ground moisture and are maturing on the same level

Barley is coming in fast, and some next week will swath if a window opens for a nice dry 5-day heat run. Swath and harvest in 5 days, not last year's yields, but still lovely.

Oats is having some issues with the heat and will be a bit lighter. It's still weeks away from harvest.

The canary seed looks excellent on most fields that have good fertility.

Flax is done flowering and doing ok.

Canola, which was seeded early in our area, is great. It's the later seeded that's having issues with the heat. One rain would still save later and really late but then frost could be a key factor. Weeks away till harvest will begin. Some lighter areas are getting creamed and areas that missed the early July 1 rain are going backwards.

Overall our area is doing better than most and we are grateful for the early-season rain Overall Saskatchewan most areas haven't been that lucky with rain. Yield will be down province-wide to a little over the last drought year totals.

But the big problem for the ones in drought areas is no sub-soil moisture the tanks are empty and no sign of a good fall fill up. Snow does jack shit it's a slow week rain that fills the tank.

Markets are going down and are doing the usual let's get every bushel we can steal before someone wakes up and realizes the cupboards are empty.

    Lovk the bins.

Have a great week stay safe and if your stressed talk to someone please. We have all been there before in either drought or flooding.

Been a very erratic year for moisture. Very front loaded for the season and now large stretches between rains certainly taking its toll now.

I had some late flowering canola around some sloughs. Its heat blasted compared to the earlier stuff.

My earlier stuff got blasted, and I thought the later stuff would avoid it , but nope, both got blasted.

All I really want is a break from this relentless heat.
          Off to lake!

Interesting weather and drought monitor this week:

Rain over the next 7 days …

Looks like Alberta rain is scarce…

Blessings and safe harvesting… long way to go here…

I like how wheat price is dropping must be harvest pressure. Yea a 10 bus crop offers other pressures than price.

I would love to pull into a 1/2 section of any of that with the haybine.

Third day now of evening or overnight thunderstorms. Just under inch and half now combined. Will help with seed fill. Canola mostly done or just finishing up flowering around here.

Not sure I’d go that far, damage was done early on it’s far from a bumper crop but yes fortunate to get some moisture for sure. Like always here it could turn things sour if it stays wet when the combine needs to roll.

Yes , I think it was 2018 when it snowed in early September and it stayed a long time
Then wet ground to deal with and flat crops
That was not good at all
Hard on nerves , hard on combines , swathers and the pocket book

Harvest will start next week , lots of crop being pre harvested.
We have wheat ready to swath anytime, seed wheat , will wait till after weekend to let low areas fill as much as possible.
Peas , wheat and barley will be coming off in area by next weekend.
Yields will all be down 40-60% from last year in this area .
Good crops west of here along hiway 16 where the June and early July rains went . They will be 2 weeks yet .
