    Mother Nature can be finicky

After not getting much rain when needed all summer and the crop is just about ready now …..
    rains forecasted will actually happen
Murphy’s law . Timing has been terrible all year in this area .
Equipment is ready , bins ready, drought stressed crop a few days off and they will be right for the first time in months in rain here .
Lite showers overnight , actually feels and smells good this morning. Hopefully not the start of a prolonged wet period.
It has happened before after a prolonged dry period.

My son had about an hour left to finnish combining the ryegrass. We will likely fight with that for the next week or so by the look of the forecast. Showers and hail showing up now in spots. Mother nature just trying to average things out I guess. Neighbor had 2 wiring harnesses burn on his JD combines this week don't ask him how are things going!

I don't think finicky has been one of the words I have been using in regards to mother nature the last few years around here.
She has been more in the cattle handling words dept.

We started out extremely dry.. then got better.. then just kept coming..
Now if it keeps up we will be hunting for tracks for the combine and throwing rice paddy tires on the swather ( not actually joking
          ...bought a set in 2019).
Our issue in edmonton area if we dont dry out will be sprouting/ grade loss/ late harvest.
Mother nature is cruel.. and strange...

I can accept finnicky or whatever we call it. Have seen every imaginable weather scenario it can throw at us.

What I cant accept is the brain dead zombies running the commodities trade.

It is amazing to see how EVERY article you read is " kansas..worst wheat crop in 60 yrz"

" 40 municipalities in sask declare ag emergency"
" europe under extreme heat and drought"

Russi at war.. bombs grain silos

              Etc..etc
              Yet. Grain prices dropping...
Fertilizer magically rising ( i honestly believe its because i inquired about nh3 at our local retails)

Canadian dollar at what.... 3 month low? Basis levels are absolute garbage compared to the last time our dollar was near where it is now..

Locally our hard red basis is 2.75 for spot...
But peer 1 month into the future and voila! Magic!
              1.40 for the same commodity!

I guess the grain companies see an incredible rise in CAD vs US dollar in the next 30 days!

              Heres my 2 cents.

LOCK IN 2024 wheat/ canola prices . As much as you can.
Remember in may when canadian canola crops were going to be HUGE and record acres? Soy acres were up in the us and a...
Canola plummeted to what... 14.50 Fall price?

How many " acres" will go into soy and canola next yr in north america with nh3 at 1000$/ mT and urea sub 600?
              Hint. ALOT

Lock in your fall nitrogen price.
Lock in some grain contracts for fall 2024. Know your margins.
If you can make money selling HRS wheat at 10$ in 2024 ..then you wont when it comes down to sub 9.00 and canola drops under 15.

              Theyre coming for our profits.
              Protect yourself.
              Be prepared for
10$/ packs of strawberries come christmas and 9$ heads of lettuce.

Lots of guys having trouble with Tired Iron but a fair bit of that Iron is not that old adding more problems.Major fixing and machinery payments on the same steel is a really bad combo .

Makar, just get yourself a jumbo lease and flip it every year to another color. That seems to be all the rage these days.
