My daughter in law went to Moosejaw last weekend. Not sure what the Saskatchewan Ag rep. is saying, she said the crops were short and thin all the way. Certainly very sad.

Yield highly variable here ,hrsw , probably end up the same as freight shaker , 70 % of ave so far
Some will be 50-60% after gauging this first one
Fortunate in way , as many others have far less , but only 15 miles west is a huge crop , again . Always just out of reach
Take what we have I guess and hope better for next year for those who will desperately need itLast edited by furrowtickler; Aug 15, 2023, 20:40.

I hope you bought the Extra Fine cut chopper SF3. The other one is brutal in tough straw. Onlybhad one field that it made a mess, guess lesson learned on that.

Rained out here , got all but a few swaths left in a plot . The rest of swathed wheat is off
Wait and see now how much rain we get , unreal when you want zero rain , it rains

What is your method for estimating yield? Think my average seeds/head is 30. It’s just determining plants per square foot. I’m on a 10†space but a lot of the calculators give all kinds of answers. It’s funny the seed per head in the hills is better than on the level good land but plants per foot looks better. Oat crops are lousy but barley is probably the best looking crop I have. Weird year.

Finished peas , 10% below average
60% of normal (in the swamp) where the rain experts had us at “adequate†for moisture
This is NE Sk , where there is apparently a good crop according to Sk ag , big surprise coming
Just a hint to those experts, hotter than normal june with no rain june and july won’t make a GOOD crop
And another 4 tenths last night to make it even harder to get what little there is
Probably 2 inches here in last 10 days after it was too late and late enough to make sure we spent as much as possible on this dud crop

So hard to judge this year cause of the huge variability within each field .
Yesterday it was 15 in dried out areas and up to 80 in draws . But too many dry areas this year will bring averages way down in most fields and too few draws
The odd field that had good snow catch will be reasonable, but that far and few between here
