Friday Crop Report on a Thursday!

Good morning little tired been doing night spraying Reglone Ion. It’s fun but you have to know your land for sure. Deere has lights on each bank of spray nozzles.

First harvest started in our area was early peas seeded May 2. Lentils on other side of valley.

Rain the last week up to 2 in. We are almost at 10 in in growing season.

Our new minister of Ag was out touring farms. These guys have an agenda so don’t think they are your friends.

Trudeau needs to quit and so do the rest.

The Crop Report

PEAS AND LENTILS

Early harvested peas and lentils are doing good for yield and grade. Seeding in mud worked well this year they were done before the heat. Guys who push short rotation are not as lucky. Guys who have never had peas on fields are doing real well. We seeded a week later and they were just desiccated Monday and Tuesday. Look good and new variety seems promising.



Barley is swath and waiting till Saturday to harvest. Seeded early and didn’t have heat stress. Most will harvest in next week or so. Some early is harvested but rain got .



Hrs and Durum is starting to change colour since the rain and later is filling nice. Some lodging is happening and heads are decent. Only one half sprayed from Yorkton to Regina on my drive a lot a week away.





Canary is filling and maybe a week away.

Flax is decent and starting colour change.

Canola is not a super crop damage has been done and it won’t hit last years yields in our area. We averaged very well last year over the whole farm. Some fields seeded early have a good chance but later are not as good. Real late the rain came in time but frost could get.

Spraying or swathing is at least ten days away.

I’m thinking canola could come in at just under 30 province average. Grain companies looking at sat are going to get fooled. Farmers selling early are going to get screwed.

Ground moisture almost back up just need a couple inches before freeze up.

Be very thankful you have a crop like you do.

80% of farmers will have a huge crop insurance claim. I heard SCIC have been in all stores buying up all the printers to process cheques.

Wheat prices are in the toilet, along with peas. Most expensive crop to grow and look what’s happening!

Grain companies will offer a “sucker premium” to unlock bin doors, they will get enough, then prices will retreat back lower. CROOKS!!
At the end of the day know one cares about who is feeding this world, all they care is how cheap they can buy from us.

Sorry to sound like this but where is the enthusiasm anymore to keep up the “good fight”? I’m tired of fighting. We work so hard for so little. The farm seems to take every penny.

It's starting to change

Inch of rain in the forecast for sunday monday. Just in time for lentil harvest here. Never fails.

What's coming is a hurricane west of Mexico and a high in Continental USA taking the rain and spinning it north so it becomes a montana low. Then the same system taking a low over BC and sucking it also into the system. Could be a soil rebuilder for 2024.

I fully expect a drawn out harvest this year
Some were expecting an early harvest but I think Mother Nature will test our patience this fall .
Been there before, many of us on here have .
Just need to hope grades hold . Grade spreads in cereals will be wide . Buyers will fight tooth and nail to pick grades apart to get as cheap as they can and not pay , the excuses with be plenty after a few rains .
Lots of acres off in the SW but limited volumes with drought . The bulk of the crop still sitting out in the elements, some a very long ways from the bin with variable weather coming.
High wind’s Tuesday evening already moved some early canola swaths . Storm season still around for a few weeks yet

Trade thinks Saskatchewan is on its way to an average 33 BPA crop

**** me who do they hire to go check crops Sask AG and Food?

It was 25 in 2021.

Im coming out and saying it will be 29.6 BPA. Sorry trade the farmer knows and this crop is better than 2021 but its not going to come close to 33 or 37 like some others companies are dreaming.

This looks like the start of a multi day / week soaker as the tropical storm fades into the northern plains. Durum gonna be all sprouted, lentils in the muck.

Looks like a lost week starting late Sunday , unreal how it can’t rain for two months then rain every few days. Swather is parked with this short crop and wet weather coming.

Just rushed into Regina Dad took a turn for the worst. But by the time I got there, he was talking and sitting up in bed. These last few weeks it's one day good and three bad. It's tough at almost 95 I don't think I want to go to 100.

I joked with him he better not Die Tomorrow because we have to harvest. He said maybe next week when it rains.

A true farmer.

He combined till he was almost 90. Every day.
