Sincerest condolences on the passing of your father.

Still no sign of harvest locally.

Central AB was still a sea of yellow a week or more ago. Yellow canola fields locally. Yellow patches in late germinating canola further east. And patches of yellow volunteer canola in every other crop imaginable.

I'd say there is still more grass green canola locally than there is canola that is turning color yet. Will need a very late first frost.

Cold and wet lately.

Sprayed our early Dekalb canola today only a half section and it’s lighter dirt. Back on wheat this afternoon.

Curious about the pre harvest chem.

Around here, only lentils get it, nobody sprays durum or canola, just let mother nature do its thing. Even my giant BTO neighbors dont.

Do you really feel this pays.

IMO, it’s helps logistically knowing what will be ready and the faster it’s in the bin the better. I just don’t trust Mother Nature.

I’m our part of the world it would stay green till Christmas. No time to piss around this way you know in two weeks it’s go and if it freezes after 4 days no damage to plants.

Wheat testing 20 today around here , where it never rained last night

Havent sprayed any cereals and I have just as much off as my neighbour that sprays every acre. At glyphosate label timing of end of hard dough im usually combining 10 days later anyways. Glypho takes a minimum 2 weeks so its in the bin before the chemical even makes a difference. Sure i may leave the odd green slough or water run for later big deal.
If you have bush, weeds, uneven terrain and shaded areas I get it.

Canola also letting her go au naturelle by the time the cereals are off in the next few weeks all the canola will be ready to go as well. Ill save the burnoff for October.

If these pod shatter varieties are what they cracked up to, you shouldnt have to lay any chem to it and that should be a safe sept harvest 9/10 times. Otherwise why are we paying for that tech.

I just came back through moose jaw and there are thousands of acres of wheat on the cusp and didnt see anybody hitting it with glyphos. Hasnt really been a thing here yet.

You obviously don’t get frost end August or early September
We have 1/2 hrsw in bin excellent grade , anything not pre harvested still out not close and has been de graded . Yup every area different. Same goes with barley, if not off already , malt is completely screwed in this area .

Not so the case here , I sprayed a field today for a community project. Had obvious frost pocket damage already . Every are different

Every year different, but its still August 60% of my cereals will be in the bin on air by the end of the month no preharvest herbi. I find the durum retains colour better, alive seed vs dead seeds.

There are many areas in NE Alberta , NW and far NE Sask with severe downgraded cereals already if not off and in bin .
