Friday Crop Report on a Thursday.

Good morning. Well, last night, we had dry wheat, and this morning, we need to set the dryer up and check it over.

It Rained from 1/2 in to 1 in—more to the north and more today.

Still spraying wheat and canola as fields get close to ready.

I did our sand Ridge and was very surprised.

Trudeau is dropping in popularity, and Jag will cost NDP votes.

We have One million more illegal people in Canada than registered. I wonder why we have crime and housing shortages. But when you elect incompetent people, who would be surprised? Nice Socks don't work. He and team diversity are idiots.

    Ah, the crop report.

We have hit the 10% done harvest, but provincially, that number will be higher—lots done in the drought areas. Being done at this time of year means poor crops and isn't a good thing.

Peas and lentils are all wrapped up and yield good overall, but in the case of peas, lower yields on fields not using the 8-year rule by over 15 BPA. It is the most excellent sample I have harvested in years. I am pleased with the yield, but the price could be better.

Barley is almost done harvesting in our area except for feed use and green feed. Overall, everyone is happy with the yield, but for malt, lots rejected because of chatting. Ours made malt.

Hrs, most just got going with the harvest. Yields good so far but the rain will down grade now. Some very big yields coming off. Poor protein hearing.

Oats some us swath already and some is real soon.

    Continued.

Canola, no one has tried any, yet some fields will have been sprayed two weeks ago very soon. Some areas are as good as last year, and some are not. Yield will be all over the place. I don't think we'll hit the previous year's highs as an average.

Lots of spraying now. The best yield in the area might be south of the valley, seeded 20th. June due to excess rain if it doesn't freeze for another ten days.

Lots could do a cut on hay fields but haven't. Pastures are returning to life, and later-seeded green feed didn't like the July heat.

So I would say we're way better off than most and I am very thankful.

Remember the cheapest land in Sask is in areas in most years that are growing lots of grain.

Stay safe and have a great harvest.

Hot weather continues in the US:

Started harvesting yellow peas at East Edmonton…. Nice crop…. Swathing Nexera… 15% hail damage on a big chunk South Edmonton from August 17 storm, wheat damage… hope to settle Killam July 1 hail storm damage by September 1…. Maybe…. Regrowth a huge factor… totally shredded crops regrew…. Now apparently a part of the hail calculations…. Perhaps harvestable…. If we get a couple of weeks without frost…

A month lost to the hail damage…. Regrowing from the roots… our heavy fertilizer application of PKS and micro nutrients… we have an amazing regrowth… compared to Neighbors who wrote off the crops and silaged or baled them….

What is fair? Edge/Fortress Premerge plus best possible post emergent weed control… fungicide, best seed treatment and seed varieties allowing amazing crops to regrow astounding well from the roots…compared to side by side crops written off by neighbours…

        Interesting times!

        Blessings and Wisdom

            2021 - Finished midnight on August 31.
            2022 - Finished Sept. 7
2023 - 3 hours left. Will call it close enough, finished August 31.

What do they all have in common? When everything is ready to harvest first week in August, Houston we have a problem. Below average on everything, one quarter of wheat would have pushed average, but handful were well below to bring the average down. Canola was bit of a surprise, but still be 80% of average.

X9 ran flawlessly after first day gremlins. I mean flawlessly, didn’t put a wrench to it at all. And very happy with the sample and losses. Much better than our claas we had. Guess time will tell if they are reliable but the neighbours are on year 3 with theirs and handful are on second year as well and no real issues. Header wise, you can’t beat the macdon. Sorry we combine beside the green headers and they are no match.

Not sure whats worse … bad yields or horrible prices? What a yr to have both. Most expensive crop to plant.

What does a guy do all fall, heck it’s technically still summer? Being done before school starts for some is something I’ve never heard of.

Wonder how these grain companies are going to keep guys busy, might be some layoffs coming?

The crooks won’t be seeing any grain of mine for quite some time.

Just an FYI Tom. If you can get the tonnage, the price of selling silage bales can exceed the price of selling average feed wheat. This year.

Bad prices? I think they are great prices, some upside potential to boot.

They could be half next year real easy.

Yes inflation, cost of production, etc are higher, that no guarantee of future returns.

Trudeau told us we need more immigrants to build more houses for....more immigrants.

Like where are these skilled workers they keep telling us about. They should be lighting a fire under our economy right. Instead they are in food banks and tent cities. I thought these were all doctors and people with foreign degrees that just need accreditation.

                    What an asinine policy.

Instead of pumping up the sectors of our economy keeping the lights on, the govt is trying mass immigration backed by mass bureaucracy. This wont end well and it will be a long time clawing out of this one if we even can.

Grain prices have no where to go but up. However, as we learned from the russian piece of garbage putin.. when war hits, the max the world will pay is 14-15$/ bushel. After that some countries* cough..china..cough* will let their people starve. Same with feed barley.... we hit 8.50-9.00 and all the sudden trains of corn magically show up at all our local elevators ( nearby viterra brought in 11 x60 car trains of cars last winter).
                      Predictions.

Sell your canola starting at 19.25. Companies will get hungry all over the provinces to keep crushers rolling and be forced to " market special". Only thing tempering canola is absolutely 0 export buys.
Wheat only has upside. Evrry single country growing wheat has drought or low yields for some reason.
Will be interesting to see exactly when the price shoots up and by how much... if you feel like you need to move some wheat, throw in a heavy high basis target and let the companies know how much they need to shave off their profits in order for it to come out of your bins. $1.60 basis for hard red up here in edmonton area? Canadian dollar down... inflation tbru the roof. Get bent. Dont spit in my mouth and tell me its raining.

For all you guys who are done harvest.
                      Im sorry that sucks.
Instead of running an x 9 on those little crops you shouldve bought some old tr98s or 9600s... then youd still be combining!!!

You see a 18-19 on canola, thats an automatic sell in my books. Too many other places growing it, other substitutes.

There are guys who held durum when it hit $21 a few yrs ago, wanted $25. Farming isnt like Tesla stock. Incremental gains at best.

Yes and other countries will do extreme things to keep food inflation in check, because already hungry countries dont want swarms of armed citizens heading to the capital.

Durum and lentils and peas go to a lot of poor countries. Canola goes on the shelf next to a half dozen other seed oils.

                          Well said Jazz
My biggest concern is pricing for next fall...
Farmers almanac calling for a snowy winter ( and they seem to be more precise than weather network
                          lol )..

Lots of canola goes into the ground next yr... the BIGGEST CROP EVER will be predicted.
2024 fall canola price will plummet to sub 14 $.
                          MIND YOUR COSTS people.

                          Also
Anyone priced out ant Nitrogen? I cant even get a legit quote from nutrien... something is up there.

                            Checkoff refund day is today.

X9 is really good on fuel and the headers can do lots of useful stuff just like the MacDons. You will need a bigger grain cart for sure and a good driver.
