Friday crop report on a thursday!

    Good morning.

Harvest for us has finally hit the 20% Mark. Rain delays and funerals slowed the process. Thank you for all the lovely messages.

Provincially, it will be at 40%, but the low-yield areas are done.

Canola is in free fall, thanks to harvest pressure. Hahhahahahahahahaha biggest ****ing joke in the world.

Oh wait, no, that is Trudeau, our extreme leader.

    Ok, the Crop report.

PROVINCIALLY WERE AT 40% harvested, and that's not something to be proud of because that is achieved because of low yields and drought conditions.

Now it's raining in the province, and some hope for the 2024 crops.

Peas/lentils are all done in our area, yields were excellent, and some fields have now been narrowed and worked black. We still work a portion every fall—no straw problem.

Barley is all harvested except a few fields for feed. Yields were very good.and quality on early harvested is great but later isn't expecting to make malt.

Oats some fields have been swath but have now two rain systems on them and it could effect some. Also later is slowly coming to maturity. Oats is ok for yield but not outstanding.

Flax have been shut down but none harvested. Look ok but not like other years.

Canola is being sprayed and some is close to being harvested. Lots swath in our area this year. One guy did harvest a very nice field across the valley last night on way home looks real good.
    Not 2022 yields but nice.

Pastures are greening up, and we are cutting grass a lot in the yard again.
Some third cuts could happen on the odd hay field.
Total rain fall since May 1 for our area is 8 to 11 inches.

Hrs and durum harvest is happening now and yields are very good.

One word of advise be careful with half ton trucks in field because straw will ignite on cats. It happened so fast wasn't even funny. Two drivers were changing and boom. We have fire protection on cart and combines but could only keep it from spreading. The Ford lost. Thanks to Balcarres fire
    for prompt service.

So happy harvest stay safe and remember it's only a crop that they are working overtime to take.

Usa is drying up, Russia is going hard on Ukraine grain facilities and Australia isn't wet. But prices want to drop. It's all a scam.

If you lost any crop due to the fire most hail insurance includes fire coverage.

Yes lots don’t know that and your liability ins doesn’t cover your own for fire , only neighbours

About exactly the same here in my area
Some canola varieties held on very decent, some obviously can not handle drought stress as well .
Huge variation in some fields , much like some of the wheat

We are finding the same with wheat. No protein at all which in a dry year is odd.

Here the low protein is all coming from low areas, the pieball just rolled in like crazy in nearly every low area and draw

                    50-55 bu canola @ $18 is sure better than 15-20 @ $18.
I wouldn’t be complaining too much even that price.

Have friends taking off 10 canola.

I have to spray a 640 ac 15 bu canola crop just so I don’t have to combine it end of Sept, talk about a waste of money.

                    Couldn’t get a hail storm.

Even if canola was $20 it still wouldn’t be enough for some.

We will try canola today that hasnt been sprayed. Had the plane booked but with the smoke they are days behind. Lots in our area chewing tru ugly fields and are shipping total production to local terminls as they dont want to store with all the green plant material in sample.

Grew the crop with a very limited root system only having the top foot or less of dirt accessible due to the dry season?

Never had a chance to use nutrients from any deeper?

Roots won't grow through a dry layer and all those small showers only wet it down a couple of inches.

That's my theory on why my pasture stalled in mid season and responded very little to the occasional showers.
Looks better than normal for this time of year after getting about 4 inches since early August.

How many farmers use the CGC Harvest sample program or the Subject Too service?

Nice! Be sure to divide the sample down using a proper divider then keep your representative portion to run through protein machine to check to see if they are accurate.

CGC does not monitor grain probes or PX machines or grading at elevator that is up to farmers to check and watch for accuracy. That was one of the recommendations put forward in the review but never implemented.
