    Seedmaster nova

Looking at possibly adding a second cart to my seeding unit. Looking at a seedmaster nova. They don’t seem to get good reviews from what I have read. They look like a nice unit though. Any thoughts?

Obviously not many using the seedmaster tank…how about the newer morris 9000 series tanks? Any good?

Will the hitch on the older purple colour seedhawk tow between tank handle the 60’ toolbar plus a 600-800 bushel tank behind?

Not a lot of BG around here. They seem overpriced for what they are. I don’t see how they meter evenly with an auger dumping into a big tube and two divisions with towers afterwards. But they must work, or nobody would buy them.

There is a decently nice 6550 bourgault in the area for sale. Maybe worth a look?

We have a 9000 morris cart
It works well , not perfect by no means , pretty accurate, still a head banger

Would probably use 3 tanks for seed, and 1 tank for starter fert.

What about it is a head banger? Or you mean literally on those drives mounted on the side of the cart?

My biggest concern is whether the hitch on the tow between cart will handle the stress of pulling another cart behind.

Are you looking to add fertilizer capacity at seeding with secondary cart ?

Yes. We are all dry fert, and use power rich in seed row as well. Have a 500 bushel seedhawk tank in front right now. Hoping to use the seedhawk tank as all fertilizer to the fertilizer boot, and then whatever tank we hang off the back will be power rich, and seed, to the seed boot.

Got offered 2400 acres extra for next year, so looking to speed up seeding somehow. Will be at 100 acres per foot of drill with this expansion, so near the top end of what our drill can do.

I suppose the other route a guy could go is a tender trailer? Still stopping more often with a smaller tank, but fills would be faster.

This option will be about the same cost as adding a second used cart to the seeding tool.

Could also add another seeding outfit all together, but that brings a whole other ball of wax into play. I have a hard time letting one of the hired guys seed by themself.

2 of them are definitely not ready to seed. No attention to detail from those guys. They can pick rocks, harrow, high speed disk, etc.

1 I feel is capable of seeding, but electronics are not his strong suit. Might end up chasing him around and diagnosing more than seeding. Tried to teach him to spray, but he couldn’t catch on to the electronics. A very adept man mechanically and pays attention to everything around him otherwise.

The last guy is capable of seeding, but also the only guy other than myself capable of spraying. I think his time is better served spraying if I can help it.

I guess this is why I am trying to stick to one seeding unit.

Bourgault or bust for a non sectional tank, leading or tow behind. There’s a reason they sell 3x as many tanks as any other competitor. Seedmasters in area run a bourgault. Seedhawks up until 5-6 years ago did the same.

But I am with you, that octopus on the tank scared me when I had it, and still brings odd nightmare now that it’s gone. It worked but was way too much going on. The new bourgault tanks also require alot of hydraulics. Something to consider.

Used 6550 would be my pick. I don’t think draft requirement on the hitch would too much, it’s just a rolling cart on wheels (unless steep hills)

6550 for 8 years, bullet proof, simple accurate. CHEAP now too. New bearings and augers is all that wears. Very overbuilt.

Half the land is fairly level. Half has some hills to deal with.

Dealer advising against a second tow behind cart. Saying that seedhawk already has frame cracking issues without hanging a tank behind it?

Is this a truthful claim? Or pushing an agenda to sell a full second unit?
