Last Friday Crop Report on a Thursday!

Harvest is 99% done in Saskatchewan.

Snow is here to stay since we went from very nice and hot to cold and snow in three days the ground cooled and it’s over for another season.



Fall work has come to a fast end and now guys start putting away things till spring 2024.

Average yields in the province are being estimated for all crops.

Province has the following numbers.


Hard-red spring wheat is estimated to yield 43 bushels per acre
durum 24 bushels per acre
oats 82 bushels per acre,
barley 56 bushels per acre
fall rye 36 bushels per acre.
Flax is estimated to yield 18 bushels per acre
canola 33 bushels per acre
soybeans 17 bushels per acre
Field peas are estimated to yield 31 bushels per acre
Mustard is estimated to yield 636 lbs. per acre
lentils 1,101 lbs per acre
canary seed 982 lbs. per acre
chickpeas 858 lbs. per acre

Mine are easy

Wheat 41
Durum 22
Oats 78
Barley 55
Flax 18
Canola 31
Peas 29

Fun fact we will make more money on wheat than Canola this crop year.

Crops with acreage changes for 2024.

Canola acres will be down
Barley acres will be down.
Oats will be up and so will Durum.
Yellow peas will drop hard a switch to green or just drop.
Some lentil varieties and colors will change.


For our area big peas, wheat, durum, and barley yields canola was good but no 2022 yields. You can be extremely wet but still need a cooler wetter July and a half inch wasn't enough for super yields.

Rumblings that insurance will go up in 2024.

Land values are still rising and rents are coming in stronger.

Prices for grains just keep creeping lower and fertilizer chem seed keeps going higher.

2024 could be a very interesting year.

Curious about your fun fact, when you say you will make more money on wheat than canola are you saying in total or per acre? We had good wheat yields but profit per acre this year will be better on canola.

Cover crops still baffle me. Just over 2 weeks here between finish of harvest and cold snowy weather.

finished juicing last week , finished floating fines yesterday, no snow , minus -9 last night . finally all the john deere fields are turning yellow and canola turning brown. disced some sloughs tuesday . it sure is dry though

Great Harvest weather and the surprising yields made for a damn good harvest..

Canola down 20-25% from past years, But I'm very happy as they were much better then what was expected.. S Wheat was down 5% but the weight probably may give us a boost over past years..

We finished the 3rd week of Sept, so had lots of nice weather to get the sloughs worked and all the junk home and put away. The bin yards have been cleaned up, gopher holes filled, all the canola moved back to the main yard and in air bins(fans running the last few nights).

Waiting for custom Fert spreader who is waiting on product.. What is up with these companies not having product in place???... they know how much is applied every fall...

SF... U haven't gotten your baby diesel Yukon yet, what is up with that? I Love my High Country with the baby Duramax so much I ordered a LT with one for my farm whip..

I too love the baby duramax , mileage just keeps getting better
We have an eco diesel which has performed equally as well , and mileage not far behind chev
But that dodge cab , what a joke . It’s a Laramie , top of the line , but it’s like it has a vacuum bringing dust into cab . Had it into dealership 3 times , they can’t stop it?

I bought the Yukon in spring when I got home but also ordered myself for the farm a 3500 Diesel.

I’ll keep the Yukon for two more winters I’m thinking
