    Straw prices

    has anybody heard straw prices? local feedlot wants delivered in his yard (5 miles)for $30/tonne ($14/bale). I would sell it in the bale in the field for that but thats my bottom line. He says he has 2500 bales lined up at his price but I am skeptical. Nutrient value $6/bale, baling $7, hauling $3 is $16/bale or $35/t so why bother?

    Heard of a neighbor in S AB sold straw for $15/T in the swath.

      So plow it under and get zip? In case you haven't heard we are having a major wreck here in the cattle industry?
      Frankly if I were you I'd be happy as hell anyone even wanted my straw?
      If you can't live with the price then plow it under and spend some more money for N to get it burned up!

        Ron;

        $12-$15/t for the straw dropped in a windrow, for wheat straw... is close to market value.

        There will be plenty of straw, so chopping it and building up the soil is not a bad investment this year... if you have a good straw chopper.
