Low of -5 last night with a skiff of snow here in SW Alberta . Predictions of more cold the next few days. We're about 1/3 done seeding, but nothing is sprouting too quickly and we have no crop up yet.

Here in the Moose Jaw area, just started seeding on Monday, Lentils, was going to switch to Peas on Wed. but us and everyone else is waiting now for above zero temps. I had a feeling we would be paying for the very mild April temps!! Seeding has barely begun here, (most haven't started yet) pretty good moisture to seed into but not much picking up on the packer wheels or air cart wheels. A little moisture would be good soon but not critical yet!

A few farms are well into seeding, but most are waiting for wamer weather in SE Saskatchewan (Arcola-Redvers-Carnduff-Oxbow).We have seeded over 2000 acres with about 1550 to go(for the first round!).Very little water,we may have missed 2acres.Germination moisture is okay, subsoil moisture is poor.

Here in Eastern Manitoba, one or two neighbours have started but most are waiting for it to warm up (snow flurries today). Some fields in poorly draining areas still have water standing on them. Lots of stubble burning going on when wind allows. Soil moisture is good to excessive which is normal for this area.

Hello Charlie, I guess the 1/4 being up in southern Alberta is overstated. I only see maybe 10% up, 75 - 80% seeded. 21.8 mm in March, 11.7 in April. -7°, -8°, -4° and -6°C the last four nights. One more -6° next nigth and we hope it is over. Soil moisture is good, at least on mintill, 70 - 75% capacity. Peas and grain are emerging, but slow. In all, I feel it looks good down south.

May 2, North of Edmonton: 5-ish% complete, at best. Some canola and fababeans in the ground, should start again in earnest tuesday-wednesday. Some canola seeded last week into 8 degree soil germinated, but thankfully not emerged before the Frosts (-8 was my worst). We'll be checking again for damage to emerging roots today and tommorrow, on the really early stuff.
