Yesterday, the CWB announced a new 'Guaranteed Delivery Contract with an Early Payment Option' for feed barley. The CWB says the intent of the program is to improve cash flow for farmers and to help the CWB capture marketing opportunities. You'll find the details at the CWB site: www.cwb.ca Presently it's under 'What's New' or new releases (Aug 29). What do you think? Is the CWB market attractive in your area for feed barley? Are you likely to sell more feed barley to the CWB this year than last? Will this guaranteed delivery and an optional early payment encourage you to sell more to the CWB? Is the CWB making significant improvements to attract your feed barley? When you reply -- it would be helpful to other readers if you indicate the region you live in. Looking forward to your reactions.

We have encouraged our clients to consider this program if they meet the following criteria; know their barley won't get selected, live outside the traditional livestock areas, have lighter weight barley (less than 48 lbs./bu), have barley piled on the ground they want moved by Dec., don't like shopping the market and would rather just deliver to an elevator. What are other peoples thoughts? How should international feed barley price signals be provided to farm managers so they can include this avenue in the marketing decision process? How important is it to have access to the world feed barley market?
