    tom4cwb, if you sold your canola at "fair" prices when others tell me that agriculture is not sustainable then I suppose that you are a stronger competitor than these other farmers.

    You will survive while they will not.

    You are simply a better farmer. You can run faster, further, and longer than the average farmer. I suppose that you are also much larger.

      Vader;

      Does it really matter what we got anyway?

      Go to "Canola Marketing Idol" for a taste of what was going on with planned marketing systems.

      Add $1-2/bu for IP Canola.

      We said 2 years ago that $7/bu was needed to make a profit on most farms with Canola... and

      $7 was easily attained this summer plus IP premiums.

      Now;

      Where is wheat and barley?

      All our Peas are delivered and sold off the combine at a small profit this fall.

      $3.60 feed and $3.85 2Yellows were avaliable in July 05 here.

      What was the CWB plan to get a profit for wheat and barley for 2005?

      Why was the CWB plan not published if they in fact have a plan?

        Vader, you completely miss the point. Yes the prices are not so good right now, but they haven't been. Canola locked in January for $348 per tonne. Seemed like a good price 6 months ago, so it was done. It's called a marketing plan, you should know what that is, right??

        Tom4CWB simply says a farmer today has the tools and resources today to make money if they actually have a plan. Canola and peas and every other grain works with some attention, work, and knowlege making the CWB (in its present state) unnecessary. Tom4CWB, I don't want to put words in your mouth, but I'm sure that is what you mean, and I agree.

          You know what, this year the lentil market is the most extreme buyers market around with the fact that we have produced twice as many lentils as we normally export. When I went around a couple weeks ago to sell some, every broker and grain buyer had an endless line of phone calls and farmers waiting to sell them lentils. I got a "fair" price not a great one but one that gives me a profit and gives my farm a profit (makes up for the loss I take on Wheat every year). This is a perfect example of farmer competition, and you know what I still felt like they wanted my grain, go figure!

            WD9;

            IF the CWB were to create plans; THAT include and respect us, they could become valuble to my farm.

            However, the present system (the CWB Monopoly created to keep prices of grain low) places grain farmers in western Canada at a huge disadvantage.

            We were told down at the elevator that the CWB is already planning NOT TO SELL all wheat offered in 2005-06 to the Monopoly.

            How does this keep prices up?

            It does not do anything BUT lower domestic feed grain prices even lower...

            And what "customer" cares if the CWB says it will with hold 20% of 40% of the 05-06 western Canadian Crop?

            Not one.

            The world has plenty of wheat and barley...

            And plenty of Caotic marketers who had no plan to market what they grew.

            A MONOPOLY to keep the price of grain low inside Canada... and to sell at a low price to the Gov. of Canada's freinds... Exactly what we got in 1943; and it still works the same today.

            Tell a duck it is an eagle.

            They try to get that the duck to do eagle flying; hunting; nesting; and watch the other eagles laugh out loud!

            If the Gov. of Canada would give us an EAGLE to do our Marketing work; then we would get some place! But as it is... we have a duck that thinks it is an eagle... which hurts everyone using the system... except the Gov. of Canada their freinds... and livestock producers!
