What kind of wheat to grow?

I'm struggling with my 2006 crop rotation. So many things to consider and so much uncertainty.

I'm planning on using bin run Wheat seed. I have AC Barrie and I have 5701 CPS Red.

My big dilemma is this: If CWB policy remains the same the Barrie is probably my best bet. But if we have a change in policy I believe the 5701 would make the most sense. Agronomicly I prefer the 5701. Its shorter straw, higher yielding and less prone to lodging. And in the real world it even has a greater value than Barrie.

But the price under the CWB is dismal and the domestic price for feed wheat is pretty crappy as well. But I know this wheat has good milling value and good money value as well, just not here in Canada.

Here is a summary of Portland Cash bids. I want to draw your attention to the comparison between DNS Prices and HRW prices. DNS 13% protein is $4.86-$4.94, HRW 13% protein is $5.01-$5.03. Barrie is a DNS equivalent, 5701 is a HRW equivalent. So in the U.S Free Market 5701 would have an avg. price advantage of $.10/bu over and equivalent Barrie. Yet in Canada 5701 has a value that is $1.30/bu less than an equivalent protein Barrie.

How can anyone defend this debauchery of reality by the CWB and the Canadian Grain Commission. Were losing millions if not billions because of this situation.
