Local Marketing Groups and Information

Do you participate in a marketing club? Have you ever? Do you find them worthwhile? What about on-line marketing clubs? Do they exist?

I knew of one community in the Peace country where a group of farmers got together and everyone put in some money to hire someone to check local prices in their area and fax around the opportunities to members of the group. It focused on local prices and basis levels. The program ran for several years, it might even still be operating. I don't know. Are any of you involved in groups like that?

With technology now, we can easily get futures prices, global market information etc. But, other than making a lot of phone calls, how do you get local information?

I belong to a group meeting on a monthly basis. We just met yesterday and want to use e-mail to alert each other of marketing opportunities that we feel are noteworthy. Also I have just made arrangements with a market analyst to "attend" our meeting via a speakerphone.
