Corn tariff off - Ontario ethanol plants a "go"?
I heard yesterday that some southern Saskatchewan RM's are wanting to raise money for ethanol with a $1.00 per acre charge on municipal taxes.
We will need around 20 ethanol plants the size of the Husky plant at Lloydminster to achieve the Federal government target of 5% biofuels assuming that bio-diesel would be mandated at 2%. (that would leave ethanol at 6.5% to achieve the overall target).
It is going to be a race to see who builds these plants, where they will go and whether they use imported corn or domestic wheat as a feedstock.
