Stats Can Seeded Acreage Tomorrow

Stats Can's seeded acreage estimate comes out tomorrow, June 21. It's based on a survey of 29,600 farmers between May 24 and June 24.

Reuters new agency surveyed analysts and traders and this is what they came up with in million acres:

TABLE A

Crop Average Est. actual
2006 2005
All Wheat 26.55 24.94
durum 4.45 5.79
oats 5.37 4.58
barley 10.55 10.97
flax 2.14 2.08
canola 12.36 13.57

Of course, due to the survey dates, the Stats Can report won't include difficult conditions in northeastern and east central Sask.

What a pain posting a table! Hope you can figure my post out. I don't know how to post tables so they're readable.

The Stats Can preliminary seeded acreage report came out this morning (June 22). Seems that farmers planted more wheat and hugely more canola than intended. Here is the probably unreadable report in thousands of acres. The Agri-ville Mayor has promised to fix the table to make it readable.

TABLE B
2006 2006 2005
June 22 April 25
all wheat 26,492.1 25,620.2 24,943.4
durum wheat 4,260.0 4,050.0 5,785.0
winter wheat 1,807.7 1,727.7 1,253.4
spring wheat 20,424.4 19,842.6 17,905.0
oats 5,445.9 5,389.6 4,579.5
barley 10,107.9 10,388.6 10,971.8
fall rye 365.9 358.7 411.5
flaxseed 2,120.0 2,245.0 2,080.0
canola 13,392.4 11,597.4 13,569.6
corn, grain 2,805.2 2,817.5 2,778.0
soybeans 2,989.1 3,141.8 2,907.1
dry peas 3,509.0 3,454.0 3,375.0
summerfallow 9,305.0 11,710.0 10,160.0

Everyone is wondering how much the many flooded acres in Saskatchewan will offset some of the huge canola acres. Probably not as much as everyone thinks 'cause yield is still the most important determinant of final crop size.
