    dont you guys have daily cash prices??

    from charlies post below dont you guys get cash prices for domestic useage of grain.
    at our recieval point usually there are 6 to 10 buyers operating and another 4 or 5 that via fax and email.
    of course all grain destined for export is pool or cash and run by awb

    we complain about our marketing options maybe i shouldnt as your sounds a even more prehistoric than ours!!!

    Malle;

    In some cases we can get daily cash prices; which are generated by the CWB alone.

    THe Daily Price Contract had a signup from June 1/06 to July 21/06 for the 2006/07 crop year. THe CWB ended it a day early on July 20th/06 because the CWB reached 500,000t of contracts... which it thought was more than it could handle so it stopped offering this option before the sign up deadline.

    We have wheat that the CWB had contracted to take by July 31/06; the CWB agent is too full and still can't fit it in... so we will have to haul the 2005 grain (they say now by the end of Aug. 06) in the 2006 harvest period that starts in a week.

    We grew this pedigreed wheat seed for the CWB Identity Preserved program... then the CWB cut the program in half in Febuary after the Conservatives got elected federally. So we have been stranded with left over pedigreed grain (seed) that now we are forced to sell.

    If the CWB would tell us what is happening in the spring of 2007 for acres... then we would know if this seed (99% germ.) should be saved and planted then... but the CWB has refused to tell us what the plan is.

    THe CWB says if we have a "high quality" harvest they will expand the Hard white program back to 1 million acres (which it was supposed to be in the spring of 2006 but was cut in half; because of low quality created by a rainy 2005 harvest period, which reduced water absorbtion qualities we are told) so the CWB wants to only accept Hard White of top quality and protien over 13.5% this year... of which this seed is about 12%.

    Complex?

    It gives me a headache just thinking about it.

    800t was involved in this little scheme... for us. We are stuck with pool price alone and have not been allowed (for an arbitrary CWB excuse) to use the Fixed Price Contract, were blocked from signing it up to the Daily Price Contract on the 20th of July... and are stuck with the 2006/07 pool price with no storage payments after holding it for a year.

    The arbitrary excuse is that allowing people to have cash price using the Fixed Price Contract would cause the CWB problems with the 2006-07 pool... for 2005 harvested grain that is entitled to go into the 2006-07 pool period.

    It is clear that the Daily Price Contract was over contracted because of this distortion... of which the CWB excuse makes no logical sense at all.

    Arbitrary rules that only a monopoly would make... or get away with using.
