    Small Step toward Dual Market

    I was just tossing an idea around about starting to provide more market choice. What if the board were restricted to only marketing CWRS wheat and durum (exports and domestic food use)? In other words, leave the winter wheat and CPS, etc for the open market. Farmers and grain companies could export these wheat classes. For now, we still have KVD, so it would be segregated. It would be very interesting to see how the milling wheat acres would compete against other wheat classes.

    Just a half-baked idea, but it could be the start of something worthwhile. Any thoughts?

    How about we let any farmer decide who gets to buy their grain?

    I know it sounds crazy, but in 2006 perhaps it would be good for people to stand up and have some free choice.

      Zapod;

      If we dust off the Western Grain Marketing Report, I believe the CPS class was suggested as an opportunity just as you have said... 10 years ago.

      And feed barley... how has the CWB dealt with it? Last fall we were assured CWB sales were $20/t higher than we ended up with this spring on the A series.

      We have done very little in the last 10 years to allow competition especially in the basis the CWB charges... and transparency is practically non existant.
