Agstar, No way of knowing how many farmers voted in last federal election. I thought you would know the voter turnout in the cwb director elections. I'm going to go out on a limb & suggest 40% of farmers voted in cwb elections. Perhaps the 60% that didn't vote did exactly what cwb directors are doing re: this special committee, that is taking there bat & ball & finding another field to play on.

Tom, I have to agree with others comments with respect to dragging religion into the debate. Yes many churches and religious groups were at the forefront of the grain marketing debates in the twenties and thirties, it was inappropriate then and it is inappropriate today.

Tom, I have great respect for you passion for this issue, but it does make me queasy when you or anyone else drags religion into this. It only heats up and already over-heated issue.

With that said wheat marketing in Canada is all politics. You can’t separate the two, they are fused together permanently by the CWB Act. So if you are sincere about separating the wheat from the politics, why on earth would anyone want to go through such a divisive process, as a plebiscite. Strahl is handling it right. The Monopoly is held in place by federal legislation and all voters should have a say by way of a federal election, it is beyond narcissistic for any farmer to think they as a group should be able to dictate national policy. All taxpayers are responsible for the guarantees, all taxpayers are responsible for the punitive measures necessary to enforce the monopoly. The plebiscite was a recent Liberal Policy and the conservatives should not, and thank goodness do not feel bound by it.

By the way precedence would dictate that a super majority of 67% would be needed to support the cwb monopoly in order for the government to force the monopoly on all farmers. That’s why there has never been a binding vote, because the cwb could never achieve that high of support. So the government would be needlessly dragging an industry through the proverbial political wringer for nothing.

But most important of all, I believe most Conservatives respect individual freedom too much to ever allow it to be put it up for a vote. The Liberals and the NDP on the other hand really have no great attachment to the philosophy of individual freedom, to them individual freedom just gets in the way of them telling other people what the should do and by force if necessary.

So don’t expect a vote, ever, not from the Conservatives, not from the Liberals (the 67% thing) not from anyone.

But I’m sure that won’t stop the opponents of free marketing from demanding one, but it’s just like the NDP demanding Canada immediately pulls out of Afghanistan its not a real policy it’s just politics.

Nicely put together argument Adam, when Tom speaks from his head he makes often sound good points but when he brings religion in here it so diminishes his credibility. One can be passionate while being respectful of others rights, beliefs and religions.

I note that I have met Tom in the past and I found him to be passionate, intelligent and strong in his faith. He's not a bad person JD4ME he just is extremely involved. He may be right on some things and he may be wrong on some things but we all are at times.

            WRAPper;

I have heard it said that humans normally use only a few % of the capacity of the brains, we have.

I apply this to the spirital side of our souls... as many times decisions originate from these urgings and feelings.

Ladies often are more in tune... and can pick off the important signals that indicate the proper timing of decisions... that will have a positive impact.

What impacts our management decisions... and makes a positive long term impact?

            Faith,
            Family,
            & Friends;

These are what matter and determine success in the end!

Logic does not drive commodity prices...

"Caotic" and "random" events make the unexpected; reality.

            Yet

Many of us have faith that everything that happens; is planned.

Our challenge is to make a positive impact from a negative situation.

This is the secret of sucessful risk managers... be prepared to make lemonade out of lemons!

Have the confidence to recognise that still small voice (which isn't a greedy or fearful voice) that tells us when a wise decision can be executed.

Partners who are in tune make great stong teams that build positive influence.

The secret in the end... is timing.

The wise person doesn't step out just in front of a cruising freight train... and expect it to stop for them.

Putting a coin on the track... and seeing the impression the train wheel makes instead... can be interesting.

Better yet... being on the right train... and a having the knowledge that it is heading in a direction that builds community with a positive spirit: is fun!

WHY are some farms profitable... while others cannot make ends meet?

            Management.

            Rock solid & stable,
            Confident & positive,
Principal oriented & willing to sacrifice to make a satisfied client,

And just hard working & Honest.

TO see a job well done... because we hope to leave our communities better than before we started!

I sure hope & pray these values will be the driving spirit & soul behind our new CWB.

            God Bless Canada!

W****r and Adam Smith, you're wasting your time obviously defending or trying to reason with this person ,as a fanatic is a fanatic. Unreasonable, unreachable and unchangeable.
I shouldn't have bother blasting the person because at the end of the day the only message a fanatic hears is their own.

Good to have you back JD, keep posting as that is what it is all about!

Most of us are fanatics, unlikely to change our point of view or position. If it wasn't true we'd only have 2 or 3 farm organizations instead of 8 zillion.

Farming and farmers opinions, I'm convinced, is more divisive and forces sides more than religion any day. Religion divides, but like faith, good conversation and understanding where the other person is coming from, unites.

I guess that is why the special committee isn't made up of farmers.

Nothing special about any committee in ag policy, ever, this one just happens to be dealing with the CWB, which makes it over-emotionally charged and "special".

When I read letters in the farm newspapers, I filter out the ones that come from the same guys all the time because they're the most dogmatic and the least open-minded people. I like to hear from people who are open to ideas, not stuck in one way of thinking. Same thing here. Most posts I don't bother opening anymore. And it's getting worse. Too bad.
