    Sleep Tight Agstar!

The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board, today announced the appointment of Bruce Johnson to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB).

"Mr. Johnson's considerable experience in the grain business will be a tremendous asset to the Board of Directors of the CWB," said Minister Strahl. "I am confident that he will be able to bring new ideas to the table at this critical juncture as we move toward a new environment with marketing choice."

Mr. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Manitoba. He has over twenty years experience in the business end of the grain industry as a senior executive with Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and Ag Pro Grain. He currently provides consulting services to a wide range of clients in the rail transportation, agricultural input, and food processing industries as well as to the legal and government sectors.

"I believe the CWB and its directors must demonstrate strong leadership and complete engagement in the process of preparing the CWB for a future that includes freedom for farmers to market their grain as best they see fit. I am counting on the commitment of Mr. Johnson to do this," said Minister Strahl.

Mr. Johnson fills one of two vacancies among the five government-appointed directors of the CWB.

Canada's New Government remains committed to moving forward on its promise to provide farmers with a choice in how they market their products and will do so in an open and transparent way. For information on the new government's path towards marketing choice, please visit www.agr.gc.ca/cwb.

Regardless who wins the next election, there will be 5 appointed directors sitting at boardroom table with you who will not be confused by trading jargon or in-house benchmarks.

And if all that comes out of this debate is that, life is good.

OH it's not over yet friends

Keith, who was formerly one of five government-appointed directors on the CWB board, expressed his views in a letter to the federal agriculture minister shortly before he was terminated by a decision of the Conservative cabinet. His current three-year term had been set to run until the end of 2007.

Government appointed director Bonnie DuPont of Alberta resigned effective Oct. 25.

Add those two vacancies to the fact elections are underway for five of the 10 farmer-directors and there is potential the board of directors could soon look much different.

The Tories already filled an earlier appointed director vacancy with Ken Motiuk, an Alberta farmer and longtime advocate for marketing choice.

But this is a little obvious . Move over Belinda.

Interesting to note that SWP pretty much went bankrupt and is still on life support with huge pension liabilities. Maybe Mr. Anderson can merge CWBII and SWP. How long before they screw that up?

Hours after federal Agriculture Minister Chuck Strahl said he wouldn't introduce legislation to revamp the Canadian Wheat Board before the next election, his office was issuing a clarification.

Strahl wasn't talking about the federal election, Strahl's press secretary Jeff Howard said. Instead, he was talking about wheat board elections.

Howard said Strahl apologizes for the confusion.

                Incognito;

I seem to remember Johnson as a straight shooter who wasn't afraid of exposing the CWB's inequities... when he worked for SWP.

DO you know him and his CWB stand?
