Now I've known Jim my whole life...unlike some on here. He is a man of integrity and is a decent upstanding citizen.(And he was a pretty decent goalie...got a cup of coffee with St. Louis Blues!)

It's not the CWB boys that are going to keep Jim from voting....it's Canada's New Government. They are the ones who are taking voters off the list. The new rule, according to Chuck Strahl, is that if you haven't sold wheat or barley in the last year and a half you're not entitled to automatically get a vote.

Good stats. Sorry for the long delays in posting, busy I guess.

My original question still was that although Ralph gave the ability for farmer elected directors, the 'open market' directors somehow never amounted to a majority on the board. It will be interesting to see how the vote turns out on this election, may be a precursor to determine the barley vote, maybe not. Interesting and passionate times isn't it cottonpicken.

Still wonder though if the blame lies with the lack of organization of the 'open marketers' as opposed to majority of support one way or the other. Did the Open market organizations simply mess up or simply assumed it would happen? Where would we be today had there been a majority of choice directors elected?

If a person owns a big hunk of agricultural land... and has been bashed around like Chatenay has been by the CWB over the past 8 years... and works 24-7 to try to resolve the CWB problem...

The "open" marketers seem to be more focussed on their own farms and issues. To organize support for their choice candidate.

Lifer, are you saying 'open marketers' are then lazy and generally limited in scope of focus and vision, or perhaps have simply given up?

I would say not, but maybe I'm wrong after reading your post. Giving up and not being successful are 2 different things; are they not?

I am really really concerned that the barley plebiscite may turn out that it remains on the board. This would be beyond frustrating.

I am not sure of all that needs to be done to ensure a vote in the 'choice' direction, but I am trusting those organizations that want the vote to go in a particular direction are doing a lot more in terms of acheiving success than has occured in the past. Again, history has shown that success has been hard to come by. With this topic there will always be fights and positions taken. Unfortunately one side seems to keep winning while the other side is awash with talk.

Now is the time to make change, hopefully that will actually happen this time. Two thirds of my crops are board grains, it is just what grows best here, I am depending on change.

I wouldn't say we are lazy but I would suggest that too many farmers lack vision.

When opposed to a system it can be difficult to work within the system for change.

I too am concerned about the barley plebiscite. How many farmers who have others with permit books on the land they farm, have worked to ensure that that permit book holder votes in a way that opens up opportunity.
