What really is a financial advantage?

cropduster might only be happy with $4.50/bu barley while tom4cwb might need $6.00 malting, and agstar only sells a little bit of extra feed barley that is leftover and wants $1.75

The point being, pooling for those who really want to pool through the CWB, and the rest can bypasss the Board entirely.

Interesting you would bring up the "Fair" point.

THe market place creates "fairness" by allowing those who have a certain cost base... to hold their produce until the price rises to meet their need.

Subsitution.

This can happen in 2 ways.

1. A different subsitutable product fills the demand. For instance rice or potatoes can be subsituted for wheat products to fill the human consumption market.

2. A different supplier can supply the same market. IE. the Former Soviet Union nations can crank up production to fill the hole the CWB creates when it holds back 20% of our CWRS and Durum this year. THen when we have strangled our customer... those people make contracts with others more willing to supply at a lower price.

Bingo... we have double trouble. We have left over inventory... plus a big crop of wheat on tap... in Canada... AND everywhere else...

DOUBLE TROUBLE.

CWB distortion in the supply side of the market system MUST be stopped.

Measner should know better.

Measner has single handedly been the biggest reason the CWB "single desk" must be dismantled.

Clearly if we Canadian producers get too greedy, then other global wheat suppliers crank up production... then when those who held back will be in a real and market distorting situation.

To have a the CDN non-voluntary gov. sanctioned monopoly cause this distortion is simply "Not ON" in today's global environment. Measner must be the object of attention... and he being the cause... and proud of it... must be dismissed.

The dual marketing concept has always been my solution to the situation. I just would like to know once and for all if it can be proved that the wheat board has actuallly put extra money into the hands of producers on a per sale type basis. Now that doesn't sound just right, maybe am a little groggy this morning, but would like to know if a big sale to for instance China on a certain day was for more dollars per bushel than what could have been attained on the world market. I guess I answered my own question, because why would anybody in their right mind pay more than the asking price. Yep Tom, fire that so and so and lets get on with our lives and marketing.

The important point for me is how much do I end up with in my pocket?

If the CWB sells to Iraq for $80.00 per bushel, and I only get $3.10, being informed of the $80.00 figure only establishes that the CWB got a good selling price.

Show me the money? Gray and Fulton keep their budgets flowing from writing up reports that corroborate that the CWB gets a 'top price'. They claim it over and over.

Ahhh. The Board might get a top price, but producers don't.

So, where does the premium-money go?

carebear, does your question really ask, "where is the money?"

And if there is a wad of premium-money out there, where could it be?

Just a note. Was looking at historic charts at the CWB site and it would seem that the board does a better job relative to futures when overall prices are lower. On a year like this one they seem to do a poorer job. Again these numbers are only relative to each other and there might be other things at play.

Financial bath!!!!! What have we been taking. Funny thing about these CWB premiums, we read about them, we hear about them, we just never see any of them on our grain cheques. No farmers in the world sell their grain for less money than western Canadian wheat farmers.

i think you're on to something serious there silverback. this thing stinks. some say when the truth comes out, the board's activities are going to look worse than awb and the sponsorship scandal put together.

and when i look at fob wheat values, then hear about the prices they have been charging accredited exporters (second-hand, albeit but not that hard to come by and not far off posted prices), i can't help but wonder WHERE IS ALL THE MONEY GOING? C$218/T INSTORE? WHEN THE WHEAT MARKET HAS BEEN TRADING AT 10-YEAR HIGHS DURING THE WHOLE FRIGGING SALES CAMPAIGN?

"A business cooperation agreement was signed here today between CITIC (China International Trust and Investment Corporation and CSL (Canada Steamship Lines Inc.). Under the agreement, CITIC will provide various support and assistance services for CSL in connection with its developing business interests in China, particularly in the area of dry bulk commodities transportation." (The Xinhua General Overseas News Service, May 8, 1986).

"The agreement was signed by CITIC President Xu Zhaolong and CSL Chairman Paul. E. Martin.

"After the signing, Martin told Xinhua that CSL is interested in transferring technology connected with self-unloading bulk vessels. The transfer would include technical assistance to Chinese shipyards related to the design and construction of self-unloading carriers CSL is also interested to invest in joint ventures in China in the area of water transportation of dry bulk commodities."

As a businessman set up by the Montreal-based, Desmarais family run Power Corporation, Paul Martin sold out to communist China some 20 years before he ever became Canada’s prime minister.

The vessels of his former company, held in trust since he became prime minister and still operated by his three sons, would be more honestly run as sailing under the Red Star.

Now it makes sense why four years ago, Canadian Steamship Lines International, a CSL subsidiary, entered into a deal with Shanghai based Jiangnan Shipyards to build two bulk cargo vessels–at $45-million per ship.

The Sheila Ann, a bulk carrier named after Martin’s wife, was built in China in 1999. A few days after Martin’s June 28, 2004 election as Canadian Prime Minister, 83 kilograms of cocaine, with a street value between $12-million to $14-million was found in an underwater grate attached to the bottom of the China-built vessel.

This is not the first time the Montreal-based company has ordered new vessels from Asia, where shipyards are heavily subsidized by the government and free of many of the safety and environmental standards that constrain Canadian competitors.

According to the Calgary Herald, the PM’s sons ordered new ships from China in June of 2005.

Martin and a partner bought CSL from the Montreal-based Power Corporation for $180-million in 1981. There is no doubt that as the owner of CSL, Martin became a wealthy man.

This is the background of the organization that Martin signed a deal with in 1986.

CITIC is a People’s Liberation Arm (PLA) conglomerate whose subsidiaries Polytechnologies and Norinco are the world’ largest manufacturers of arms and weapons of mass destruction, which they smuggle to rogue nations such as Iraq, Iran, North Korea etc, (Red Dragon Rising, by Edward Timperlake and William Triplett, pgs, 73-4,77,79,81.105,112,118).

This is a corporation, which answers to ruling political leaders in China, who are documented for an appalling human rights record.

When the Canadian connections to CITIC are examined, one wonders if Paul Martin wasn’t bought and paid for in Chinese currency long ago.

Former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien’s son-in-law, Andre Desmarais, President of Power Corp, is linked to CITIC through his investments in this Communist Chinese conglomerate and by being on the CITIC (Pacific) board of directors.

Power Corp. purchased 4% of the shares of CITIC (Pacific) in May 2000. Beijing’s CITIC derives nearly all its profits from the Hong Kong subsidiary, CITIC Pacific. CITIC and Power Corp, have several joint ventures in Canada and China and a CITIC executive acts as an adviser to Power Corp.

It was the Desmarais family, readers may recall, who sold CSL to Martin, and Martin who signed a deal with CITIC to take CSL to the self-loading bulk commodities transportation stage.

There’s a stench here that smells more like nepotism than narcissus.

You would think that the powers that be at the CWB would wake up. The longer they wait to disclose information the more that those of us that desire this information, think that there is something definately wrong. Corruption is the direct result of secrecy and not having to comply to the goals of its users. Hope this doesn't sound to goofy to all of you.
