Expertise
As a market specialist I work with farm managers improve their incomes by doing a better job of marketing what they produce.
I arrange and instruct producer marketing workshops ranging from as short as an hour to as long as four to ten days. These workshops may be organized by Alberta Agriculture alone or jointly with a grain company, a bank, an auction mart or any other business involved with producers.
Another way for producers to improve their marketing skills is by forming a marketing club. Marketing clubs may be organized by producers themselves or by agribusinesses. I have worked intensively with a number of successful marketing clubs.
Background
Born and raised on a mixed farming operation at Cereal, about 55 miles east of Hanna, Alberta.
Graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1974.
Agriculture Representative and District Agriculturist in Saskatchewan and Alberta for 12 years at Kindersley, Shaunavon and Hanna.
District Agriculturist at Hanna for seven years beginning in November, 1979.,
During those 12 years, my main interests and the majority of my work was in the areas of farm financial management and agricultural marketing - the business side of farming.
In November 1986, I became the Marketing Specialist at Fairview, responsible for the Peace and Barrhead Regions.
July 1, 1994 I became Market Specialist at Brooks.
I am still involved in our farming operation at Cereal.
