    Who is telling the truth?

OTTAWA - Liberal Leader Stephane Dion says he will reinstate the Canadian Wheat Board as prime minister if the Conservative government dismantles it.

Dion says Prime Minister Stephen Harper is ``trampling'' on the board's spirit and effectiveness by firing its president and issuing a gag order preventing the body from defending itself.

The Conservatives have promised to end the board's long-standing monopoly on wheat and barley sales, saying they want to make participation voluntary.

Wheat board president Adrian Measner - who opposes the plan on the basis that it will effectively kill the board - was given two weeks' notice by Agriculture Minister Chuck Strahl last week.

Farmers are split on the issue, but a majority of the CWB's board members - elected by grain producers - want to keep the single-desk model laid out in the Canadian Wheat Board Act.

A plebiscite of farmers on ending the board's barley monopoly will be held in the new year, but no vote is planned for wheat.

I've always heard that if the CWB is dismantled you cant reinstate it...

    Which is correct?

I think you could reinstate in but under the NAFTA agreement you would have to compensate all grain companies for future earnings that would be lost. So no one would be able to afford to reinstate the board. Someone help me out on this - I think its in chapter 11 of the agreement-

We have had a dual market in place and working for years!

All kinds of grain presently bypasses CWB pooling and marketing.

So what are we talking about?

Adrian Measner was with Dion when he made these statements, and chimed in with his support. This is final proof that the CWB has dropped all pretense of trying to be objective in this debate, and is now taking sides in an overtly political manner.

For that reason alone, Measner deserves to be fired. He carries on these stunts knowing full well that large numbers of farmers whom he purports to serve do not agree with his stance.

If Measner wants to be a politician, he should resign and run for office. If not, he should shut up and stop being a shill for the Liberal Party of Canada.

As a rule in business, it is not a good practice to have the entry plan not quickly follow the exit stategy.

The gap is painful, and rarely productive as we can see.
