Parsley don't forget that supply management is the only farm sector consistently making money year after year. And all the consumer groups want to get rid of it (cheap food policy )

Silverback I farm in dry old SW Sask and I grow durum on 1/2 of my acres,1/4 pulse and 1/4 oilseed

HFL I guess that what they used to say here only durum then chemfallow but the chemfallow has been switched to pulses. Don't knock the CWB too much till you sell pulses and maybe or maybe not get paid for them.

Merry Christmas to you and to all a good night.
P.S Good luck "taking prices on your crops"

Continueous cropping won't work here. People tried it for 5 years and didn't use a combine for 3 of those years. We grow mustard, peas, canary seed and feed barley along with wheat and durum. We will be shifting more if not all of our acres to non board crops in 2007. As I said before we will vote with our drill in 2007.

HFL - you farm with plenty of expertise and have been doing a good job of managing the land and crops you are able to grow. You have seen your farm through growth and expansion. Unlike those who employ continuous cropping methods you know that that kind of abuse will only make the land tired and they will lose any kind of advantage they have over the long run.
Better farming practices don't always mean you make the most money every year but you take into consideration what the land will need year after year.So in 10 and 15 years your land will still support a crop and therefore your family
