From my experience working with an independent ag-retail firm before full time farming, when doing cold-calls, I found the CWB supporters were more skilled in (board and non-board) grain marketing than the well-know anti-board farmers in the region. They also had a greater understanding of the ag industry in general (rail, chem, fert, govt regulations etc). I also found they tended to be much less vocal, than the "choice" farmers.

Perhaps you have it wrong, in that it may be those who want "choice" are the ones watching Dr Phil all day, or spending too much time shopping for a new sled every year

BennyHin, you just made the point I was exactly trying to make. No I don't blame the CWB for Y2K. But like I said you gave the response what any typical CWB supporter would give. WHAT IF. Benny what if you ate toast for breakfast instead of cereal, what if you bought a John Deere tractor instead of a Case IH, what if you were given the choice to market your grain instead of using the CWB monopoly??

And as far as a CWB supporter knowing more about marketing than a CWB hater. Your sadly wrong.

P.S. I actually did buy a new sled 2 days ago, thanks to my marketing skills of using the closet thing to free market as the CWB will let us in being DPC contracts. The poor suckers who are left sucking slough water who chose the pro, and now are a good $1/bus behind me. But don't worry thanks to the few of us that chose these options the guys sitting watching DR. Phil will reap the rewards!!

        BennyHin,

Do you know what is the saddest part of all of this?

The CWB could operate in a manner that DOES respect each one of our property rights... in a way that does truly maximise our returns!

The CWB approach has been a cup half empty...

If a grower finds a market that is at a premium... with more risk and special quality required intrinsic to what has been grown... why don't we say "bless you... be careful... here is your export license @ $1.50/t"?

We can grow our market... globally... using innovative marketing and hard work! Instead the CWB says it must shrink our market over the next 10 years.

THose who work and take the extra risk and time to search out different marketing options deserve the right to fail... if that is the cost of freedom!

Don't you see they would be even better supporters of co-operative marketing if they prove to themselves the CWB is doing a reasonable job!

THis is what happened before 1993... and the CWB monopoly "single desk" was not threatned.

        WHY?

Because the collective human spirit has a much bigger capacity to create prosperity & wealth...

Than our selfish spirit has intent to intentionally fail and destroy this capacity to be productive and prosper!

The CWB tactic since 1993 of being negative and using fear and intimidation to snuff out and smash peoples dreams... cannot be rewarded. Goodales creation of selfishness and revenge is simply immoral and destructive.

The 2006-07 marketing performance of the CWB in simple terms proves this beyond a reasonable doubt... to any reasonable and human spirited person who would love their neighbour as themselves!

Simply put... the CWB MUST stop selling grain they didn't get permission from the individual farmer to sell!

All your response are basically about, "what if's", i.e. what if there was no CWB", then I would sell my wheat for $6.00/bu every year right off the combine, and become a millionaire...

By the way, my city cousins, and urban friends where both spouses earn $40,00 each, and work 50 hours a week, cannot afford new sleds every year, so obviously, you already are doing better than them.
Be thankful of your lifestyle you have inherited. The grass isnt always greener.

TOM: lots of changes have happened since 1993, find some new examples.
I too can blame grain companies for some awfully dismal oat bids in 1990, and 1991 but things have changed since then.

TOM: The CWB PRO is probably based on 1 million tonnes of wheat sales to the US market. Anymore than that, and then Byron Dorgan, US Congressman for North Dakota (Democrat) would flip his $2.00 wig or toupee and shut down Canadian exports. The other 13-14 million tonnes of wheat is sold to export markets. SO stop comparing US spot bids to the CWB prices, The American;s don't want your grain, they are already subsidizing US grain farmers 25.6 billion per year.

                BennyHin,

Clearly the majority of the world's wheat consumption is NOT in the US.

In fact the US exports close to half of the wheat they produce... the US market is simply a reflection of the international market... it is not the market itselF!

                Look at AUSIE prices...

If our CWB doesn't wake up they will be history... we are being taken to the cleaners!

Measner pulled a fast one... and started the self destruct sequence.

                Can it be aborted?

I hope Greg is smart enough to figure out where Measner planted all the charges!

                  BennyHin,

Clearly Goodale Himself has caused the failure of the CWB.

Goodale set up an irresponsible Board of Directors that pretends to DIrect the CORP... but the Minister Responsible for the CWB, the Finance Minister, are the real power brokers.

Goodale did not implement the Western Grain Marketing Panel Report. THis is inexcusable and history will judge him for this blunder.

Goodale knew the "single desk" had to go... but was too chicken to fix the problem.

Now Goodale is a soft touch for making political points... and still refuses to fess up to the failure he has created... a management mess of monumental purportions... that makes adscam look like kindergarden classes.

Canadians will soon learn that the CWB crying wolf while using fear & intimidation to brainwash grain growers in the "designated area"

While claiming the sky will fall in Ontario and Quebec if the CWB respects its western CDN growers in the "designated area"...

Has lost the CWB immeasurable credibility and good will with the Canadian People.

I would be VERY surprised if the CWB can be salvaged...

give me a break.....in our region, fed up with the no ball bulls and the propoganda we bounced the collective selling socialist director out on his ass by a clear majority...had the gag been put in place when the Tories got the power to do so it would have been greater......

now I do not know where the hell you did your sales calls and got to know your customers but in sure was not out here in the west end of the DA....if we voted with the tonnes of wheat we grow, or acres we farm the vote would have been 90% or better for marketing freedom....

and my city cousins and siblings with two incomes have half million homes, and resort property in BC....all made in the last twenty years.....so get over your insecurities...it is rural canadians and farmers that are taking the comparablke licking in declining standard of living over the past twenty years....and I am not the one complaining...our farm is growing and profitable.....not because of wheat...but canola, peas, oats and meat....geez..these are open markets where i do the marketing.... go figure that on out...
