I got back from Crop Production Show last nite after going thru the worst storm Ive ever seen. Marlene Boersch had good presentation and the hint of a marketing group or board did come up.
We have 70- 85% of green lentil market share and yet we are price takers. She said there were lentils sold as high as U.S $500 /tonne from other countries and we were leaving over $200
on the table !!
It sounded like our multiple desk sellers were bidding each other lower and lower so in the end we as producers end up with 8 or 9 cent lentils ! The exporters are happy , they got their margin ,and the farmers have taken all the risk. Something has to change in the pulse industry.
