When building a shop addition where I used to work around that time a farmer friend pointed out that 60 ft wide was much better because the outsides filled up with all kinds of stuff that you accumulate to do repairs and fabricating.

Door at both ends to drive semi's through is handy. The one end only needs to be 16x16.

Turned out to be good advice.

A good workskop is a must have in my opinion with the long winters here , i had a 40 by 26 and in 2018 built a 52 by 52 by 18 with 30 foot by fold door onto it , love it , i have bench and shelving etc in old one and keep the new one clear as possible for working on stuff

Good thread on shops !
I like building stuff in the shop , made this last winter and turned out to be one of the handiest things ever , to buy one this heavy woulda been around a grand , material was around $150
the storage for extra hitches is nice and that one with pin welded solid upright works unbelievably well
making a receiver on a blank skid steer plate from uncle wieners now for the front for putting headers away , etc.
who else has ideas to share ?

That was my last build , a euro quick attach for an allied 794 loader , i can now use all the same atachments on both my loaders

Goodtime.. if you have the extra money go steel you’ll never regret it. Allows you to go a little wider and you know it will last.

Not all steel buildings are built the same, I’d stay away from melview metal ones, prairie steel are nice, and their are others to choose from as well.

Worked with lots of "welders" in over the years but good fabricators are rare.

I done a welding course in my teens and that was it , but i do spend a lot of time thinking before i make stuff !
