    Yes. But you don't actually make any money until you buy the shares back hopefully at a lower value than you sold them for.
    If you somehow managed to manipulate the market so you could sell your shares short at $20 below market value, and as soon as you stop selling, the market bounces back to where all of the other buyers and sellers believe there is fair value, how do you make money buying back your shares at market value?

      In a stale market nothing would be made. But when done on a down trend it just turns into more piling on. Driving it deeper.

        And then at some point, they all cover their shorts and drive it higher than it otherwise would have gone. And/or stop it from going any lower than it would have gone.

          AAFC is typically more out to lunch then Statcan. I am pretty sure they use a dartboard as their main prediction tool.
