    Sure.

Heat pumps work sort of in Florida, Dont work in Canada. Very expensive to buy and then maintain and yes they never last longer than the company says.

Ground source heat pumps work very well to heat and cool on the prairies.

Air source heat pumps have been improved for much lower temperatures and can provide significant amounts of heating and cooling that can be backed up by your existing source of heating in really cold weather.

The best investment is a super insulated energy efficient building that requires so little heat that it doesn't matter as much what heat or cooling source you have because there is a lot less energy use.

Net zero housing that is super insulated and energy efficient and generates a lot of its own electricity has been around for awhile with the addition of solar panels on the roof.

Edmonton has a lot of net zero homes:

"Your family stories and experience from where ever you live, are not relevant or comparable to analyzing global temperatures from thousands of sites over many decades."

        Neither are your"scientists".

All measurements are within the margin of error, too many variables, NOTHING can be proven to tenths of degrees, it's all BELIEVE! Dream on.

          "Investment"

Only a die hard socialist such as Chuck would call this an "investment":

The building, a partially heated storage and vehicle garage is the National Capital Commission's first certified "zero-carbon building."

What will be the ROI on this $8,000,000 net zero storage shed our tax payers paid for at Rideau hall.

A better question, is how high does this indicate that CO2 taxes will be going forward to make this a positive "investment"? How many tens of thousands per tonne will the CO2 tax be to force us all to spend $8 million on a garden shed because it is cheaper than the alternative?

You are constantly advocating for governments to solve all problems. And that governments can do things more efficiently. So if it costs this much when the government does it, how much will it cost for the rest of us?

Saskatchewan has been building more energy efficient schools under the Leeds program certification. Leeds - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

These buildings are healthier with better ventilation systems and have a much lower cost of operation because they use less electricity and energy for heating over their life time.

A5 it sounds like you are opposed to more insulation and energy efficient equipment and design?

When you build your next house are you going to use 2 by 4 walls and single pane windows too?

Actually, we used ICF top to bottom, triple pane windows, high efficiency boiler for heat, heat recovery ventilation system, box shape to minimize surface area and roof area.
By my math, without a large CO2 tax increase to make energy artificially more expensive, we will never live long enough for these energy efficiency measures to pay for themselves.

In chucks Mind Spending $25000 to heat your home with a heat pump that would take 12 years or more to pay plus if its like mine in USA when i turn on the heat side my power bill doubles. Math is tough for Liberals just ask Justin! Offering subsidies to get people to switch to something that doesn't work isn't a great plan. Its a Disaster.

Remember almost 20 years ago when natural gas prices were high, and ground source heat pumps were marketed as the solution. They may have had an economic case at that time when electricity was still cheap. But in the interim, thanks to the private sector creating the shale gas boom resulting in cheap gas, and the governments destroying the affordability of electricity, the ground source heat pumps have all been abandoned since they electrical bill was far far higher than heating with gas.
Now we are supposed to believe that a heat pump using expensive rationed renewable electricity to transfer heat from -47C ambient air is going to be cost effective when ground source wasn't?

I was looking into geothermal. Couldn’t find a single person that had one to say it was worth while. I did find more than a few people that took them out and went to propane. If power was free maybe a heat pump might work. But it’s not

I agree. I know two that have geothermal systems and wish they didn't. Like you say they both went to propane.

Kind of like the real world experience of EVs. Hertz rental has had a pretty large sample size and said a hard NO.

Most of Chucks' cut and pastes profess in the future this or that technology will take hold only to get proven to be fantasies in the real world.

I planned on renting an EV next time we holiday in California to get like a 2 week test drive.
I can see some appeal to them in the right situation and California is the place.
We rent from Costco travel where it appears a low end EV will cost 50% more than a mid size SUV.
Not sure I am that interested but will see when the time comes.
Sometimes they have them on a managers special because most find them inconvenient and they have a lot sitting around.
The Toyota Prius was also premium priced. Have never rented compact cars.
