I read that the turbines were shut down because they can't withstand these temps.
You can't talk this fact away.
No matter how many current technology systems you build, you still need peak load generation capabilities in all conditions, every day.
So we're paying to build and maintain 2 systems. New math.
    Just Not Ready.

Not sure what/how demand will drive better tech under this new order, but mandated demand push appears quite inefficient.

Sooner or later we will wake up from the Climate Change nightmare...

And even with that fatal caveat, discharging the EV's is still only a solution for the first dark windless night. As evidenced by the dismal failure of both wind and solar during this cold spell, there is no reasonable chance to recharge those EV's during the following day when consumptions is even higher than overnight. So for the 2nd and subsequent nights, it is lights out, and you have no means of transportation.

Alberta has enough storage to meet one percent of our consumption. That would last for 14 minutes. Which obviously isn't the purpose, it is to allow enough time for grid operators to enact controlled rolling black outs when they can't meet consumption. Instead of a catastrophic shut down.
This cold weather has me asking another question.
These are tesla batteries. Which need to be kept warm.
So all winter, this is another parasitic drain on the grid. They produce absolutely nothing.
          They consume energy.
Just like all the heaters on wind turbines, and using energy to keep them rotating when the wind isn't blowing to save the bearings.
These "solutions" are actually just contributing to the problem, which wouldn't have even been a problem without them.

Premier Smith needs to announce that the moratorium on green energy scams in Alberta will be extended indefinitely. Until the promoters of wind and solar can address the intermittent nature problem, there will be no more hooking to the grid in Alberta.

My new car battery is not living up to the conditions. I’ve got farm trucks with ancient batteries that never get plugged in and they’ll start the one time a month I do plug them in for use. In the car? Nah, no go. Trying to boost the stupid thing with a booster box now.

I would hope other “new” technology batteries live up to their hype better than this one is. Also hoping the truck I plugged in works in the morning even though it hasn’t moved in weeks Lol
