A sane farmer may be okay with this. Understanding that all of ones competitors are in the same boat in the area this farmer is weakest.

This sane farmer's strength may be somewhere else and have a weakness in marketing or selling the output.

So by holding all of the competitors (farmers) in the same spot this farmer would gain a competitive advantage over the farmers that are better marketers or sellers
