    Spring melt

Can see stubble now a few days ago , water just starting to pool yesterday in a few low areas and trickle today in areas .
Some canola stubble still 80% covered , some wheat stubble less than 50%
melt started Easter Sunday , but still slow which is ok .
runoff will be about average , all sloughs were dry last fall .
Subsoil dry , much the same as last year .
Will be starting with 1/4 tank at best . Many areas far drier.

yes we are pretty well totally melted with snow only near bush lines left. No run off at all. Sloughs were basically dry or dry last fall and didn’t get a recharge. Gonna rely on timely rains this year, as next to no subsoil moisture. Kinda scary.

Been there a few years now
some on their 3-4 th year plus
Growing season is a long journey, starting near E is not a good feeling.
got enough for a decent start but like last year , need timely rains for sure .
Like an EV in winter , mileage gets short in a hurry when not fully charged .

We filled most of our dugouts a month ago , and we have some sloughs with a good amount of water in them. They are going down fast however. We had 20 degrees C here yesterday. Snow on north sides of trees still , and that is it.

We are 75% white, ICE under that snow will melt slow.

Next system looks to have some potential for us. Models show it as rather "streaky" though almost like thunderstorm tracks. For my neighborhood at least, latest runs have anywhere from 0.15" to 1+" through saturday. Every number has been trending down however and consensus seems to be pushing it into a mostly southern AB event. Lord knows they need it!

As of this morning, you could likely drag a drill mostly corner to corner aside from the most obvious low spots that pooled water nearly a month ago. Frost is long gone, and dugouts are soaking away.

Sorry in advance... I bought a new rain guage yesterday. I used to think that was bad luck, but perhaps that'll encourage mother nature to put something measurable in it!

It does look like a very broken up system now . Coming in from the SW . Most likely not get much here
hopefully dry areas get something significant

Our first melt happened a couple weeks back with some dugouts filling but not all. Most of the snow was gone until Good Friday when it snowed about 5 inches and it’s melting now and almost gone. A little more water will run with this melt.
Very dry last fall and most of the snow melt runs off so timely rains will be essential!

Driving to Calgary today and are on highway 570 and noticed Helmdale on the google map south of the highway we are on.
                  That must be your area?

                    Indeed. Old school subdivision.

You're aware that the bridge is out on 570 just west of 876?

We were not aware until we reached the detour sign.
                      Headed south from the sign.
                      It does look dry!

Spring melt done here, just a bit of snow on the north side of bush lines. Looks like a good chunk of the SW are getting some much needed rain this morning. Spring is 3 weeks ahead for us this year.

That field was L340 on some of our low land in the carrot river valley. You have to take the good fields with the bad ones. This field on the clay fields above the valley.
