    Quad or UTV?

I have had the same quad for 16 years, mostly around the farm and checking crop. It gave up.

Wondering whether to buy another quad or get a side by side?

I am now into my 6th decade so a softer ride easier on the back would be nice.

What brand does everyone recommend? I do alot of my grain marketing while on the quad. ( Want to qualify for this forum)

Buy one of each, then you're covered no matter what the weather is like, and you'll be able to give the grandchildren (?) rides.

It's the money you saved by not buying a 100K pickup.

Rangers are nice... seats arent the best though. The can am seats are comfier. And for the love of all pete.... splurge and get one with a cab, heater and heated seats. Radios are kinda useless while driving...
Cant put a value on the AC while unloading grain in 35 degree weather....or the heat and plowing snow with a heated seat....

        So awesome
        Quads are dead to me.

Neighbor has had a couple. Has put many miles on them. Seen them left on the side of the road a couple times but he does get them going again. Not sure how parts availability is.

Side by side is the most practical cause you don’t have to swing your leg over and ride it like a stinkin horse.

                It is fukin ludicrous
The tid bit of “subsidies” that we get as farmers would not pay for a fricken wagon pulled by a kid!!
But let’s blame farmers for everything ffs

Is this directed towards my post, as it was meant to be a joke?

Lep posted this on April 7/2024,

"At almost a $100k a pop, there are no deals. My days of buying a new truck are behind me"

Just so you know, I don't give a shit what other farmers drive or own, my farm is my concern.

Quad for fencing in tight places along trees and can still put in back of 1/2 ton to move . But sidebyside a little better ride and keep you out of elements. Way more of the bigger toys sold these days judging by what is kept in stock. Nobody buys plain jane anymore it's all or nothing it seems.

I have owned a 2002 Suzuki Carry for about 5 years. Use it for calving season and fencing. Have had engine issues, long story. First motor, the valve seats got dusted because the air box sucked air through the frame rail. So took to a local mechanic. He installed a snorkel and reset the valve clearances, ran good for 3 days then seized. The nit wit left a paper towel in the oil pan when reassembling. So order a new complete motor from Yokohama motors in Japan Roughly 4 grand. Installed it, ran great. But after about 3500 km became hard to start. Our conclusion is the rings didn’t seat properly because we broke it in on synthetic oil. Never again. On second new motor now. See how it goes. Used break in oil this time. This motor seems to have the most power of the three. Fingers crossed. Certainly like the truck, was a lot cheaper than a side by side initially. New size by sides as much as a good low km used half ton truck.

One other thing, if you are taller than 5’8” you won’t like the Suzuki mini truck. My son in law is 6 feet tall, quite funny to watch him fold into the cab.

It depends, mostly road and field(Sxs), bush trails and pasture(quad), distance between fields, need to bring tools etc…?

I like the quad for daily use around cattle.
Quicker to get on and off and go under or over single wire divider fence.

In my limited experience you can buy very slightly used a few yrs old at significant discounts.

Lots of underutilized toys sitting in garages.
All the extra bolt on and big tires etc. seem to come for big discount on used.
Might be due to no dealer financing limiting the potential buyers.
                            Check for clear title.

One thing about the mini truck is you can plate it and run to town for parts or the mail or whatever.
