8 in 10 years it never pays to seed early in our area. If plant is stressed early it never can achieve its potential. But each area is different.

Noticing a resurgence of muskrats in sloughs along the highway, the old boys used to say they move where the moisture is....hope they are right.

Lots of standing water, last weeks snow adding more,plus raining today =later start for us for sure.May looks wet if forecast is correct.Drought over here.

Fields are dry, nothing growing, soil still cold. No april starts in the gumbo usually. May 6-10ish.

Half done here, grass is green and leaves poking out. Pick up more fert today.

Dirt on the move here for more than 24hrs. There's a few fields that were recreationally tilled for which there's little excuse. Other fields were tilled in an effort to bury kochia and thistle trash so drills could get through them shortly. A few others, are an absolute insult to injury, as grasshoppers cleaned the entire field off and now there's nothing to hold the real estate in place.

Disgusting. Grit in your teeth and your eyes. At least it seems to be abating for now.

Seeding here should start in earnest by mid to end of the week. Stuff it in and pray for rain. There's next to nothing to get it started, let alone sustain it. Will likely hold off on rolling until the peas are out of the ground. I cant in good conscience roll them and pulverize the surface as there's little to no residue from the last few crops.

Rolling the dice... No need to go to vegas... For the dollar values we play with, at least in Vegas they'd comp you for rooms/food/booze!

The ground is frozen here. I guess minus 12 Saturday night and minus 7 last night will keep the ground frozen a bit longer.

Direct seeded last spring with a double disc no till drill.

Grasshoppers decimated the entire 1/2 section, then a late July rain grew a cover crop of kochia. Scratch the surface and theres moisture, but no residue means it wont stay home.
