Friday Crop Report on a Thursday Week 7

Good morning as we all play the rain dance. Were missing alot of the major rain events but are getting sprinkles on a daily basis.

Quick report as off to seed.

Got some very Bad news about a friend this week thats Demons finally got the best of Him. Every one Mental health and Farming are a huge issue. Talk to your neighbours and Friends. I was going to Call on Saturday to have a Chat but got busy and forgot. Well, there is no more phoning. Be nice to people we all farm let's get along. Remember it's us against the rest. We need to stick together. Phone a friend, you never know till it's too late.

Crop Report.

In our area most are at the 1/4 to 1/2 way mark depending on when you started and how much you have to go.

We are at 1/3 done and drill two has been seeding Canola for two days. Drill one will finish the Wheat.

Yes their was rain last Week but nothing much this week except the odd shower.

Peas and lentils are all in and poking out of the ground.

Barley is in if your going for Malt but feed is later.

Durum is all in

HRS is what guys are finishing.

Canola was started by some this week and its the optimal time May 14 to 16 th.

Flax the odd field is seeded.

First wheat seeded in April is up and greening fast.

Last week seeded is up and will be only a few days behind. Better emergence more even now.

Harrowing is happening because a-lot of new drills and straw aren't friends.

Last years heavy crops need lots of care.

No shortage of anything yet.

Hard to stay chipper in this business now that the lid is off inflation and the govt on the attack every day. Need some big time changes in this country.

But people need to be aware of their own limitations. Neighbor in the air drill 14hrs a day for 3 weeks now. Dont tell me that doesnt wear on a guy.

Stalled out waiting on harrows in consistent shower weather.
It's early enough yet. Glad I have a low ac/ft as all help is occasional.

Depression takes many forms.
It's not a simple matter and impossible for the unitiated to understand. Condolences.

Couple days left. Hopefully get a shot of rain here next couple days to cover up any mistakes and off to the races. Hoping for a better year than last but got no say in that….

We hit the halfway mark yesterday ,then boom last night storm rolled tru out of no where , 1/2 inch in ten minutes.So now we sit and wait with a crappy forecast.This has been a very trying spring for us with all the rain.My brother sold his farm few years back when he was 59yrs old.He didnt want to retire that early but the wet years did him in.Like we say at least when its a dry your only a rain away from a crop, but when its wet and your seeding into mud and rain everyday it wears on a guy.

With heavy rain falling here east of Edmonton we are now in next year country. Seed in mud and the crop is a dud. Finished mudding in wheat yesterday and now some of that will be drowned out. Wish I had not made some of those low priced sales last winter as may need carry out to hold down bins this fall. This is far worse than the last flood in 2020. Rain since end of April is around 5" so far and if the forecast holds will be over 6" by end of Monday.

Ours is a small pocket , just under 5 inches since May 1. Drive 20 miles any direction and it’s ideal conditions. It’s really playing on my nerves , I know how you feel . We still have time if the weather turns around. But they have rain almost every day for next two weeks.

For us I can see it but it’s going from north to sE every rain only good rain was a Montana low last week.

last three years were perfect so it’s still early.

Peas, wht and our first cnl is now up. Moisture is good, hoping our heat is here to stay (no freezing temperatures in the next 14 days supposedly).

Hearing that nitrogen is dropping at the retail and diseal is closing is on the $1/L. Still waiting on chemical from FNA, what a dud of a company. Can’t believe I still deal with them.

Spoke to our local dealer and sprayers are still short but ample combines laying around. Bourgault has their 2025 program out and was hoping we’d be interested in flipping ours.. I guess we’ll see what the numbers look like.

We have been lucky and missing the rains which is usually for this area. Still fairly wet after 3 weeks with no rain. Trying to finish a field of canola tonight because rain is forecast for tonight and tomorrow.

I feel for the guys that are getting pounded by rain.
I have been down that road a few to many times and know how stressful it is.
I also think of the guys that face never ending drought and think how hopeless it must feel sometimes although I have never experienced it.
Let’s stick together! It’s a tough game we play.
