maybe both than one can pull the other one out of the mudhole when it doesn't get thru because of skinny tires. My brother saw a flyer on dads table showing the prices of sp sprayers a couple years ago and thought it was a misprint. 9270 is still a good workhorse and popular in MB.

I love my old 67xl for the smallish acres I do. Kinda limited for fungicide and preharvest but easy it seems to find someone to do it when I infrequently get that done. Dad bought the thing off the lot 10 years ago for $14000 and dealer said it should be worth $30 but no one wanted them at that time. Neighbours who farm similar acres probably spent more on upkeep of their sp’s in a season than I did in 5. Severe hills kill wheel drives in sp’s and keep up speed an issue so pull type isn’t a lot slower. Only wish I had an auto height but even then I’d need to override it enough going through draws.

67XL wheeled boom here. 1500 gallons. Stretch to 140 ft. This one cost me $1,500. The last one 10 years ago cost me twice as much. Behind a $1,000 two-wheel drive tractor. Covering roughly 6000 to 7,000 acres a year.
Every year I say I will upgrade to an SP next year. Then I consider you will be at least 100 times the cost of this one. And as a one-man show, I can carry enough water at a time to do anything I need to do except Liberty without needing a nurse truck and a second person.


??? I also do fungicide and pgr's with it. Can't even see the track from the boom Wheels after a couple of days. The crop mostly stands back up again in the tractor tracks.
I also hired some fungicide with an SP last year, and everything that was trampled turned white and died. The pool type actually did less damage with less ground pressure.

My biggest bottleneck is pump capacity. At 20 gallons of water doing Liberty by the book I'm limited to 5 mph.
Long since found and upgraded all the weak points. The first couple of years were constant breakdowns, very reliable ever since.
Total repair budget per year is typically a few hundred dollars and half a box of welding rods.

Oh why not, heard seen mine a few times. 130' Case wheel boom, JD sectional, 1600 USG, 150 acres/hr, 200 plus acres on fill of Roundup. Constant 20" nozzle height. We also never need nurse tank/truck. Fill in yard. Hobby farm by comparison of most. Hyd unfold. Near zero overhead cost. Bought new nozzles once.

Depreciation over last 8 years now almost zero. A $700,000 HC would need 300,000 acre farm to equal mine. Plus repairs at 50 cents per acre per year, last 5 years.

Can’t store this Fast PT in shed either , founds up very tight but too tall for our outdated sheds .

Some days I wish I stilled had a wheel boom for hills. Lifting and lowering booms over and through hills gets tiresome.

Prefer suspended here. Potholes, ruts, obstacles. Had with or without auto boom.
Only thing now is, I can't look back anymore. Or sit on one hip.

Neighbor put 2 new hyd motors in his SP in one year. Local custom did all his spraying because of down time anyway . Sprayer went to auction barn and he is using a pull type again.
