Windy every day it seems and relatively cold. Just wondering about spraying at night. I have never done this before but looking at the forecast no calm days in the next week. So simple question, does spraying at night work?

On the Sask canola website there is a good article on spraying in cool and cloudy conditions. In a nutshell they say don’t as plants shut down until warm and sunny. Also the crop will have less resistance to the chemical with greater risk of injury. We missed spring weather and it looks like June isn’t going to be much better.

It’ll work but like Furrow says it’s so damn cold it will injury your crop and might not be as effective on the weeds. If it was warmer there would be few issues. And the main issue would be dew if humidity is high

From the article:
a general guideline would be to spray wheat in the early morning, canola in the middle of the day, and peas at night.
Generally, broadleaf weeds tended to be more sensitive to the time-of-day effect than grassy weeds.

Peas... at night!
Everyone hates that which shouldn't be named when it comes to in crop pea chemical, but if I spray that snot in the dark of the night it's the things dreams are made of!
1st load about 10pm, and then spray till the sun comes up. It screws with your clock, but the results are worth it IMHO.

something chem reps and most agronomists don’t understand unfortunately
most times between wind , rain , unexpected low overnight temps below 5 , it’s near impossible to spray in the “perfect” window with the horrible forecasts we are given that can change within hours for weeks on end
but again if you have zero experience actually doing it as in spraying , you have no clue whatsoever.
do what you gotta do helm, and tell any expert to walk in our shoes . Most would curl up in a corner and cry within a few daysLast edited by furrowtickler; Jun 10, 2024, 18:59.

If you live in areas with continuous wind you have no choice but to do things out of the box .
southern Alberta and SW Sask not fun for weeks at a time with high winds
