Well, it's not a great week to finish spraying, but most of it is now done. The weather is easy to understand.
It is morning sun, then clouds come in, and rain or thunderstorms by three. The only thing different than Florida or Kauai is once it rains, it clears up and gets back warm and humid. Here, it rains into the night.
Yesterday, for some reason, storms built up over the reserve, and then storms popped up with hail and lots of rain and moved south—Katepewa top of the valley 2.75 in at the farm 1.10 and hail by Lipton.
The total rain since May 1 has been, on average, 7.1 inches. We had 13 last year in the growing season ending Nov 1.
What a debate in the USA; tell me why Joe shouldn't be in an assisted living centre.
Wouldn't it be fun to have Trudeau debate Pierre in a similar style, no earpiece, Jag, Tin Lizy, or the Quebec dude?
Crop Report.
Durum and spring wheat. Stuff seeded in mid-April is just heading now, and heads are pushing out 6 to 9 spikes. Later seeded wheat in early May is just starting to head spikes, averaging 8 to 12. It will be interesting to see how it fills. Fungicides will begin next week.
Barley, early seeded. A few guys have sprayed for leaf disease; we go for plumper kernels and spray at heading with a better product. Weeek later seeded looks good also.
Peas and lentils. Lentils lots have sprayed already and look ok so far but will they produce plant growth and less seed. Peas are showing signs of root problems and don't like excess rain. Spraying will begin when the rain event stops. Agathe the in if peas are on ground on never sown to pea ground or 8-year rule, wow do they look great.
The flax is elongating and looking okay except in water runs or flats.
Canola is finally starting to wake up and a few fields are beginning to bloom the rest are cabbage. Gophers are eating like crazy and a better killer is needed.
Canary seed has gotten over the chemical setback and looking better.
Hay crop looks great but nobody is cutting due to rain every night. Looks like a five day window might come starting Monday?
Pastures look great also.
So rain is great but to much isn't. Melville area had 5 inches.
Please tell us about your area and where you are from.
I don't think we have last years yield potential as excess rain is taking production away. Heat is needed but will it just bring more rain.
Fungicide spraying will be in full force next week, you better be ready.
