Smoke set in thick now. Went to cold lake air show but planes didn’t fly because of smoke. Might save our bacon some. Assessing hail damage today about a week after. Funny how spotty and choosy that shit can be. Bloody lucky we ended up with a couple inches of moisture or more 7 days ago. Wheat is flowering and the barley looks lush. Canola though just sucks. Even the better looking fields are no screaming hell when you walk in. Moisture probably adequate if the heat tames down. Got most of the hay baled and hauled to the yard. Just an average yield but high quality. I need to get away and not look at the crops for a week or more. Kinda driving me nuts.

If you have had good rain this spring and the land holds moisture not too bad, between that and the smoke, yields always turn out better than we expect. The key is to keep the expectations low...forget the cover of the canola and Chem company's magazine being everybody's normal crop....just not true and highly unrealistic.
