I don’t remember seeing barley filled and not fully emerged from the boot. Probably seen it before but forgot but I thought it was odd.

Some early combining of barley has been done in my area. From what I have heard so far yields are not impressive. 40-50 bushel per acre yields with very light sub 48lb. bushel weights. Now granted this has been on lighter land. But yield certainly under 50% of last year. My barley silage yielded 6 ton per acre, 10.5 last year. Soft white wheat was 8 ton this year, 11.5 last year. The only reason the yields were that good was we had a 2 mile wide thunderstorm roll through a couple of weeks ago that gave us almost an inch of rain. Really helped. Neighbours plan to start combining barley Saturday, they started seeding barley about May 1. Should know rough yields next week. Drove truck for a neighbour yesterday for silage. Cut some nice looking oats but he said they were cutting it because there was nothing in the heads. Time will tell.
