    double standard

It's interesting in light of the current CWB debate where farmers should vote and the majority should rule, that the CWB with no real mandate from organic producers is set to take over the organic grain industry. If the majority rights over ride the rights of a few then it would seem only fair that the question be taken to all organic growers before the CWB arbitrarily take over the industry. We also have another double standard when proponents of the CWB claim it would be unfair for the CWB to have to compete with grain companies while at the same time forcing producers who use the buyback system to compete with the CWB. I would be a real happy camper if I had to do all the leg work to develop a market and then indicate who my end user was, pay a surcharge( buyback) which in turn was then given to other farmers who I have to compete with. In light of that maybe the CWB should devulge to the grain companies who it sells grain to and at what price.

One of the reasons that Ontario was really ticked with the CWB is because they, too, had to reveal their buyers on the application forms.

Ontario protested and tried to export, bypassing the CWB forms, and using their own documentation.

The CWB howled all the way to the Government BUT, from then on, Ontario did not have to list their buyers.

I guess Craig, the one point I am trying to get across to conventional farmers is this:

I do not think Conventional pooling accounts should fund organic marketing.

It only hurts my marketing and your wallet.

    I'm squawking. You're not....yet

The CWB should get the hell out of organic marketing and if they were not so stupid, they would have done so a long time ago.

I would agree that convential farmers should not fund organic marketing but would also suggest that if the board handles organics it should be in a seperate pool so that proceeds ,loses are accrued to the rightful participants.Just as convential farmers should not loose from organics they should also not gain from organic sales

        Craig,

"...The CWB should devulge to the grain companies who it sells grain to and at what price."

BTW... the grain co's will know and find out the final prices in most instances... too often the CWB undercuts the grain co's and takes the customer away. Even the Auditor General of Canada saw and commented on this problem.
If its not from Canadian sales directly, then it will be international sales that must "arbitage down" to CWB sales levels.
Multiple origin contracts are just one source that reveal much... and are important information collection & arbitrage systems for grain marketers.

Don't ever mention the words "organic pool" to/infrontof/around/by the CWB. Just one breath, one whisper, one phrase, and out will come a press release from the CWB claiming they have organic farmers pounding at their doors to market!

What theorganic farmers want and need are export licneses issued directly from the Board to the farmer EXACTLY the SAME AS THE CWB ALREADY DOES FOR THE FEED MILLS. No CWB marketing or pooling.

Vader, you can 'encourage' the singledeskers to let organic go. I'm sure of it.

Are you prepared to do that yet?

T4 How about the CWB tell the farmers who the customers are and what they pay. If there was a fourth vote I would vote for who are the CWB customers and what do they pay.
I think the wheat mill should be at my farm then then they can purchase wheat at feed wheat prices.
