Good morning last night looked like one heck of a potential storm but in reality, we got just 4/10 rain in some areas to the east and south of us 2 inches and more for the week so far.
We are in a national railway strike and our two idiot politicians Jag and Trudeau are doing **** all about it. It's time for the liberals and NDP to cut these two useless fools loose.
Unions support Jag why? Trudeau wants power and that's it.
Crop Report.
Harvest is 8% complete.
Barley harvest is over for us as we were able to get done before the rains began. Some swath just before and some waited. Its not last years big yield but still good. No complaining here.
Peas lentils are being harvested but most are waiting till the desicants finish drying the crop down. Some very good pea yields some not. Flood damage in June didn't help. Lentils not yielding as the crop looks from the road.
Durum early is sprayed and days away from harvesting, rain has flattened fields and grade will drop. Later seeded us green and lodged badly. Good yield but grade could be interesting.
Spring wheat is just starting to be shut down and harvest will begin in some April-seeded fields as soon as the sun shines. Later seeded will out-yield some early.
Some fun in fields not sprayed, some burnt shrivelled seeds but most nice and plump. Yield I haven't done a check yet.
Flax is filling and some colour changes on plants.
Oats are changing but yield isn't like past years.
Canary hasn't liked the past week's rain and storms, some fields feel like they are stooks. Twisted and down. Thin fields are thin.
Canola had a rough year frosts in June did alot of damage that's now showing up in uneven fields. Some early canola will be shut down next week and the odd guy is watching. No harvest but most are saying it's not our big 2023 crop for sure. Canola can't take weeks of 30 temps, better breeding is needed. We pay enough for good seed maybe its time seed companies did research and actually did something instead of just getting massive prices for seed.
No one is doing a second cut on hay.
Pastures had a downward slope from heat but with rain the ones not pushed are coming back.
Some areas to the west of us are at 13 in since April 1. But had a dry July.
What are others seeing and how is harvest going?
