Friday Crop Report on a Thursday. Week 21

Pea harvest is slowly progressing here... short days. tough grinding for what's there.

Currently cleaning every morning what I bring home during the day on account of grasshopper guts. Trailers will have to be scrubbed when I'm done as they are an oily disgusting mess. There's no way I could safely bin this shit even with air. Best yield was one field just short of 25, worst is the one Im on now that's somewhere between 10 and 15. Alot of places you're processing material with nothing coming into the tank.

There are a lot of combines out trying to beat the rain forecast. Crops are toppling over, guess they are tired of standing.

1/4 in out of early morning storm it's picking up power heading east. Started Peas did 5000 bus but as soon as it's dusk its over for the day.

Sprayed 800 acres of wheat so in two weeks we roll.

Storms, storms, storms, and we can’t buy one. Snap, crackle, pop, and all we got was some rain. That’s what happens when you have a terrible crop … it never hails. Not much you can do. Maybe tonight we will get it.

As more of my neighbours break out the combines the harvest picture is becoming clearer. Only one neighbour has harvested barley over 48 lbs. 43-45 lb. bushel is the norm. Barley yields not impressive. Highest was 65-70(hard to pin down my neighbour lol), 45-50 more common. Wheat looks like the best so far was a half section of Viewfield, around 60 bushels and 64 lb. bushel but not very pretty is what he said. That is the best I heard goes down from there. Only one field of canola done in the area, yielding roughly 30 bushels per acre. The wheat is a little better than half of last year, the barley and canola so far, right around half to a bit below. Peas are 25-40, most with smaller seed. I did a small field of second cut Alfalfa, I got half a bale per acre. Pastures, some are done, some have a bit left. Neighbours weaned their calves about the first of August, certainly helped the pastures. We are feeding cows and calves on one of our pastures.

Its crazy how at dusk even with the wind last night the pea vines get tough.Ours are running good but flat as a pancake,and dusty.

Humidity has been insane here. Baling hay nearly impossible. Thick fog made all barley test wetter yesterday.
Missed rain last night, forecasts suggest LOWER humidity next week.
